Leucadendron ‘Devil’s Blush’ is a striking, evergreen shrub prized for its vivid bracts and year-round foliage interest. This compact variety produces vibrant red bracts that deepen in colour during the cooler months, giving a dramatic, eye-catching display. Perfect for adding bold colour and texture to native and low-maintenance gardens, it also makes an exceptional cut flower with excellent vase life.

Flowers:
While technically the colourful display comes from bracts rather than petals, these deep crimson to burgundy tones surround small cone-like flower centres in late winter to spring. The colour intensifies in cooler weather, creating a spectacular seasonal highlight.

Foliage:
Narrow, pointed leaves in mid-green provide a clean, dense backdrop to the vivid bracts. The foliage is neat and compact, retaining colour and form year-round.

Fruit:
Woody cones following flowering, typically holding seeds that may be released after fire in natural settings.

Form and Size:
Compact, upright shrub growing approximately 1–1.5m high x 1–1.2m wide, with a neat and bushy habit.

Growing Conditions:
Prefers full sun in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Tolerates light frost and coastal conditions. Drought tolerant once established. Avoid heavy clay or waterlogged soils.

Uses:
Excellent as a feature shrub, mass planting, or in mixed borders for year-round structure. Ideal for cut flower production, native gardens, and low-water landscapes.

Maintenance:
Low maintenance. Light prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage fresh growth. Apply a low-phosphorus fertiliser in spring.

Notes:
Part of the Proteaceae family, this variety thrives in nutrient-poor soils and benefits from good air circulation. Attracts pollinators and adds seasonal drama to the garden.

Companion Plants:
Pairs beautifully with other Proteaceae such as Grevillea, Banksia, and Leucospermum, as well as drought-tolerant grasses like Lomandra and Poa.

Common Name: Devil’s Blush Leucadendron
Botanical Name: Leucadendron ‘Devil’s Blush’
Family: Proteaceae
Origin: Cultivar, garden hybrid

How much you like it, will depend on how much you paid.
Its just ok. I have a Klipsch the One, and I would say its slightly worse than that. So I guess it just depends on how much you paid. I paid, $58 with tax and shipping from Amazon, so I think its worth $60. BUT, I would have been said if I paid full price. Full disclosure, I've had a lot of Klipsch and other decent audio over the years so I'm a slight snob. That said, again for the money, it has a mic and battery (battery means its consumable trash) but makes for easy portable set up, its fine.
