When Ricardo finished his internship at Chateau Margaux, they chose this part of Bierzo because of its uniqueness. Not only does it boast steep, old vine vineyards, but it is the part of the appellation that has very poor, schist soils. They decided that the best plots had true Grand Cru

Not only does it boast steep, old-vine vineyards, but it is the part of the appellation that has very poor, schist soils. They decided that the best plots had true Grand Cru potential, so they decided to vinify and bottle them separately. These historic vineyards are: San Martin, Moncerbal, Las Lamas, and La Faraona.
Only 3,488 btls are made of the Moncerbal (Mencia).
