Epiduo Description
Epiduo is a gel applied to the skin that can help treat folliculitis.
It has adapalene to help reduce inflammation and benzoyl peroxide to kill bacteria.
Apply a thin layer to the affected areas once a day before going to bed.

What is Epiduo?

Epiduo is a gel that you apply to your skin to treat conditions such as folliculitis, acne, and dermatitis. It's part of a group of medicines called anti-acne preparations. Epiduo works by breaking down inflamed sores (pustules) and raised spots (papules) on your skin. It also helps to clear blocked pores and reduce inflammation from folliculitis.

Folliculitis is a skin condition where hair follicles become raised, inflamed, and occasionally infected. There are various reasons why folliculitis might occur. It can result from skin trauma, irritation from activities like shaving or plucking, or when a pore gets blocked. In some cases, folliculitis can be caused by bacteria.

How does Epiduo work?

Epiduo has two active ingredients that each work in their own way.

Adapalene is a medicine known as a retinoid, which helps reduce inflammation. It doesn't absorb much through the skin into the bloodstream, so it mainly stays in the outer layer of the skin and hair follicles, where it can effectively reduce inflammation.

Benzoyl peroxide is an antimicrobial agent, which means it can eliminate harmful bacteria on your skin. These two ingredients combine to create a dual approach for treating folliculitis, helping to both reduce inflammation and decrease the number of germs on your skin.

What doses of Epiduo are there?

Epiduo comes in tubes of either 2 or 5 grams. There are two strengths of the gel: 0.3%/2.5% and 0.1%/2.5%. The 0.1%/2.5% is the milder option and may be suggested if your symptoms are mild to moderate.

A clinician can assist you in choosing the right strength gel, offering recommendations based on what they believe will work best for you.

How long does Epiduo take to work?

Since folliculitis can differ from person to person, we can't say for certain how long you'll need to use Epiduo. This gel may be recommended if your folliculitis isn't too severe and your healthcare professional believes a topical treatment should be sufficient to clear it up.

If Epiduo isn't clearing up your folliculitis, you might need to try a different medication. Our clinicians can assist you in finding a suitable alternative.

What should I do if I make a mistake when using Epiduo?

Applying more Epiduo gel than advised won't speed up the clearing of your folliculitis. In fact, it could lead to increased irritation and redness. It's best to use the gel exactly as prescribed.

If you forget to apply Epiduo, there's no need to use a double dose. Just wait until your next scheduled dose and carry on as usual.

If you've accidentally used too much gel, perhaps by confusing it with another medicine, or if you've swallowed any, please go to your nearest hospital for urgent medical attention.

Is Epiduo similar to any other folliculitis treatments?

There are different ways to treat folliculitis, and the best method usually depends on what's causing it. Epiduo, which is a mix of a retinoid and a peroxide, is commonly used for acne. However, it can also help lessen swelling and inflammation.

You can also treat folliculitis with antibiotic ointments and creams. Bactroban, which has mupirocin in it, can help with infected follicles. In some cases, you might need to take oral antibiotics, such as Flucloxacillin, which is available as a liquid or in capsules, to fully clear the infection.

Do I need a prescription for Epiduo?

You'll need a prescription to use Epiduo for managing your folliculitis. This is because it's a strong treatment and isn't suitable for everyone, so a healthcare professional will need to ensure it's appropriate for you.

If you're thinking about using any over-the-counter skin treatments along with Epiduo, it's a good idea to check that all the ingredients are safe for you. If you're unsure, feel free to message us, and a clinician will provide advice on managing your condition.

Will Epiduo cause side effects?

As you use Epiduo regularly, you may experience some side effects. The gel works by unblocking your pores and killing bacteria, and while your body adjusts to it, you might feel its effects on your skin.

It's quite normal to experience a slight burning sensation or irritation where you've applied Epiduo. You may also see some mild skin peeling. This is typically temporary and can indicate that the medication is doing its job. To prevent dry skin, you might be advised to use a moisturiser alongside your folliculitis treatment.

If you notice swelling, a tight feeling in your throat, or painful blisters, head to your nearest hospital straight away. These could be signs of an allergic reaction, and it's important to seek professional help without delay.

How effective is Epiduo?

Epiduo has two active ingredients that help reduce swelling and inflammation. Both are effective in treating skin conditions like acne and dermatitis.

Benzoyl peroxide is an antiseptic that helps lower the number of germs on your skin. It can combat bacteria and stop your folliculitis from becoming more infected. For acne, it typically begins to show results within 4 weeks.

Epiduo includes a retinoid called adapalene. Retinoids come from vitamin A and are used by doctors to treat various skin conditions. Adapalene specifically targets your body's inflammatory response.

With its two active ingredients, Epiduo might be a good option for calming and treating your folliculitis if you'd prefer to steer clear of antibiotics.

Important Information

Epiduo isn't right for everyone, and there are a few things you should know before using it.

Here's all the official information on it. If anything isn't clear, just let our clinician know, and they can discuss it with you.

My dogs loved it, but it doesn't hold up.
My dogs absolutely love this ball! The moment I took it out of the package, they were already trying to play with it. The vibration is strong, and on hardwood floors it moves around fairly well. It keeps the dogs interested and does a good job of rolling around. The blue outer ring is made of a mildly tacky, hard rubber. Within about 30 seconds of rolling around, it had already picked up pet hair and lint from the floor. That said, the rubber feels fairly durable. I have some heavy chewers, so I'll update my review later to let everyone know how well it holds up over time. The charging process is a little unusual and somewhat concerning. To charge the ball, you have to remove it from the rubber shell, unscrew it, and pull out the motor assembly. While doing this, I got some kind of grease on my hand, so I would recommend being careful not to fully remove the motor when charging. It does use a USB-C charging port, and a small charging cable is included. Overall, my dogs are having a great time with it so far. I'll update this review if anything changes or if the ball doesn't hold up long-term. UPDATE: It is 2 days later, the rubber net around the ball has lost a lot of it's rigidity and no longer holds the inner ball in place. My dogs are able to easily remove the inner ball, which is hard and small enough for them to swallow. This toy has been taken away as much as they have loved it, as it's now a choking hazard. As a result, my rating has gone from 4 stars to 2.

Highly Entertaining Toy That Keeps Dogs Thrilled, But Smart Pups Can Disassemble It
This interactive ball is an absolute hit with my dogs, and watching them play with it has been incredibly entertaining. Right out of the box, the internal mechanism charged up very fast, so we were able to start a play session almost immediately. It blinks blue when charging and solid green when charged. The unpredictable moving and bouncing motions caught my dogs' attention right away, and they love chasing it around the room. My only critique is that it didn't take them very long to figure out how to pop the inner motorized ball completely out of the outer cage. Luckily, the materials are genuinely durable; even though they separated the pieces, they haven't destroyed or damaged either part yet. It's great fun to watch, but you'll definitely want to keep an eye on smart pups who figure out how to open it up.

Really cool cat toy for even the most picky cat!
Color: A1-Red, Color: A1-Red
I love it, wow. Our cat is picky with toys, but even he was intrigued by it. It really kept his attention, which is hard to do. It comes with three modes: fast, slow, and interactive. The only thing is that hair can get all trapped up in it because it's a wheel, so keep your house clean I guess lol. The tail also came off once, so you gotta snuggly get it on up there. Really cool cat toy though, I'm happy I got it lol

Not worth the money
Color: A1-Red
My small Chihuahua loved this toy. It kept him entertained until it would stop working. He only gets about 10 minutes of play and it's no longer charged to use. I even bought a second one thinking the first one might have been just bad luck, but nope, the same problem. It seems most of these interactive toys are only given 2 to 3 stars. I'm disappointed but more importantly, my pup is even more.

Terrific product
Color: A1-Red
I adopted a 2 year old cat - she’s not much for a lot of the toys I have purchased for her, until this one! At first she seemed very cautious with it - but still followed it around - once I slowed it down (a few different options) she loves to play with it! Great purchase very pleased with it
