Deborah Revell — "Kates Rushes". This work by Deborah Revell represents a significant contribution to the contemporary revival of minimalist botanical art, aligning with a tradition that emphasizes the essential form and quiet elegance of natural subjects. The composition is a masterful study in negative space and tonal gradation, where the artist eschews traditional color in favor of a nuanced monochromatic palette that evokes the atmospheric quality of a winter landscape. The visual structure is defined by an asymmetric balance, with the cattails arranged in a sparse, rhythmic pattern that draws the eye across the canvas, creating a sense of gentle movement and quiet contemplation. The use of a limited color palette—primarily white and charcoal—along with the subtle textural variations in the painted surface, enhances the work's meditative quality and emphasizes the tactile nature of the medium. This approach situates the piece within the broader context of contemporary landscape and nature-inspired art, where the focus is on capturing the essence of a subject rather than its literal representation. The work's interpretive significance lies in its ability to transform a common, often overlooked plant into a symbol of resilience and quiet beauty, inviting the viewer to find aesthetic pleasure in the understated and the ephemeral. The composition's delicate balance of form and space reflects a deep understanding of artistic principles, making it a compelling example of how minimalism can be used to achieve profound visual and emotional impact. For more art by Deborah Revell click here.

A timely introduction for classical retrieval
Format: Paperback
Bray has written a very accessible introduction to the attributes of God, with the proper distinctions between God’s essential attributes and his relational attributes. Bray does well in showing the necessity of the essential attributes as the foundation to the manifestation of God’s relational attributes to mankind, firmly anchoring them in the biblical text. I appreciate that he provided glimpses of the historical development of the attributes, interacting with some of the objections to the essential (i.e., classical) attributes and then exposing the reader to some of the best scholarship in response to the objections. The appendix ends the book with an historical survey of the attributes in the Christian tradition. Those unfamiliar with the development of classical theism will be brought up to speed, just enough to see the rich heritage of the classical attributes of God. I will be referring those new to systematic theology or are unfamiliar with the classical doctrine of God to this introductory work. It’s a great read and desperately needed due to the construals of God being promoted in modern theology.
