Welcome to the course, Research & Develop Units of Competency. This program is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively research, draft, validate, and finalise units of competency. 

In the ever-evolving landscape of vocational education and training, the development of robust and relevant units of competency is essential to ensure that learners are equipped with the skills and knowledge required for success in their chosen industry.

Interpret Requirements and Research Competency Area: The first phase of the course focuses on interpreting the requirements outlined by relevant stakeholders and researching the competency area thoroughly. Participants will learn how to identify the skills, knowledge, and performance criteria necessary for successful performance in a specific industry or job role. Through comprehensive research methods, participants will gain insights into current industry practices, emerging trends, and stakeholder expectations, laying the foundation for the development of high-quality competency units.

Draft the Unit of Competency: In the drafting phase, participants will learn how to structure and format competency units according to industry standards and regulatory requirements. They will develop skills in clearly articulating performance criteria, evidence requirements, and assessment methods to ensure the unit effectively captures the desired learning outcomes. Emphasis will be placed on using plain language and technical terminology appropriate for the target audience, enhancing the accessibility and usability of the competency unit.

Validate the Unit of Competency: Validation is a critical step in the development process, ensuring that the competency unit accurately reflects industry needs and stakeholder expectations. Finalise the Unit of Competency: In the final phase, participants will review and incorporate all feedback received during the validation process, making any necessary adjustments to the competency unit. Participants will also document the development process and outcomes, providing transparency and accountability in the finalisation of the unit of competency.

·       The roles of Industry Skills Councils (ISCs) and the National Skills Standards Council (NSSC) in relation to the development and endorsement of Training Packages
