About the Artist - Barbara Pagasa:
Artisan weaver Barbara Pagasa lives with her husband, Michael, in Mount Hagen in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. She is a wonderful ambassador and aggregator of Bilums for Among Equals, and is also a much-loved group leader and dedicated program coordinator at House Of Hope, a refuge she established for  women requiring healthcare. Barbara takes these women in with tremendous compassion, warmth and kindness.

Among Equals is a non-profit brand merging art, fashion and community with the ancient practice of Bilum weaving. These bags are a joyful work of art, handcrafted by a female artisans from communities across Papua New Guinea, including the Goroka, Mount Hagen, Telefomin and Madang regions, and is proud to count more than 600 weavers in its fold. Through its trade of Bilum, Among Equals is dedicated to improving the communities wellbeing, including funding and construction the Blue Haus, a safe shelter for the weavers to come together, learn and weave.
