The tablets work by targeting the bacteria responsible for the infection.

What is Azithromycin?

Azithromycin is an antibiotic that treats various bacterial infections. It's occasionally prescribed for chlamydia if someone is unable to take Doxycycline, which is the preferred antibiotic for treating chlamydia.

Azithromycin is typically taken over three days. Our clinician will advise you to take two tablets on the first day, followed by one tablet on both the second and third days.

Chlamydia is a widespread infection. According to a recent estimate by the WHO, there are 127 million cases of chlamydia worldwide. In Europe, it is most common among those aged 18 to 24.

Chlamydia is transmitted through having unprotected sex, which includes oral sex.

The signs of chlamydia can include:

discomfort when urinating;
bleeding after sex in women;
pain and discomfort in the testicles for men;
unusual discharge from the genitals or back passage.

You might not realise you have chlamydia because most people don't experience any symptoms. It's estimated that 61% of women and 68% of men with chlamydia show no signs of it. This is why it's recommended for men and women under 25 to get tested annually if they often have unprotected sex.

Before beginning treatment for chlamydia, you'll need to have a test. You can arrange this with your GP or at a sexual health clinic, and then send us the results. If your test comes back positive, we'll guide you on the most suitable treatment. If Doxycycline isn't an option for you, our clinicians may prescribe Azithromycin instead.

If your partner tests positive, you can begin taking the medication even before you've received your own test results.

It's advised to take another test three weeks after completing your treatment to ensure it has worked effectively.

How does Azithromycin work?

Azithromycin is part of a group of medicines known as macrolide antibiotics. Chlamydia is an infection caused by the bacteria C. Trachomatis. This antibiotic works by targeting the bacteria responsible for the infection, weakening it and eventually killing it. It achieves this by preventing the bacterial cell from producing a protein needed for growth. Without this protein, the bacteria can't multiply, allowing the infection to clear up.

What doses of Azithromycin are there?

Azithromycin comes in two different strengths: 500mg and 250mg. For treating chlamydia, the 500mg strength is used.

When treating chlamydia with Azithromycin, you typically take it for three days. On the first day, you'll take two 500mg tablets, followed by one 500mg tablet on both the second and third days.

Pfizer makes a branded version of the drug called Zithromax, while Azithromycin is the generic version.

How long does it take Azithromycin to work?

Azithromycin takes about a week to eliminate chlamydia. Although you only take the tablets for three days, it's crucial to remember that you might still be infectious once your treatment is complete. To avoid spreading the infection, you should refrain from having sex for at least seven days after finishing the treatment.

What should I do if I make a mistake when taking Azithromycin?

If you accidentally take Azithromycin incorrectly, please inform us so we can guide you on the next steps. You might need to begin your treatment again. It's crucial to avoid having sex until you've finished the entire course of treatment, as there's a risk of passing the infection to your partner.

Do I need to have a positive test result to take Azithromycin?

If your sexual partner has been diagnosed with chlamydia, you can begin taking Azithromycin without needing a positive test result yourself. It's advisable to provide a sample for testing, but you shouldn't delay starting the treatment while waiting for the results.

To be prescribed Azithromycin, you'll need a positive chlamydia test result. If you already have the result, you can share it with us. Alternatively, you can get tested first, and if the result is positive, we'll guide you on the treatment.

Do I need a prescription for Azithromycin?

You'll need a prescription for Azithromycin because our clinician must confirm that your infection is chlamydia. If it's a different type of infection, another antibiotic might work better.

If your partner hasn't tested positive, you'll need a positive chlamydia test result to begin taking Azithromycin. You can use a test result obtained from another source, like your GP or a sexual health clinic, before starting your treatment.

How is Azithromycin different to other treatments for chlamydia?

Azithromycin is a reliable antibiotic for treating chlamydia, but Doxycycline is more commonly used as it's a bit more effective. If you're unable to take Doxycycline, perhaps due to an allergy, you'll be given Azithromycin instead.

Both tablets are antibiotics used to treat and eliminate chlamydia. Doxycycline is taken for a longer duration than Azithromycin and is available in a different dosage size.

How effective is Azithromycin at treating chlamydia?

Azithromycin is a highly effective treatment for chlamydia, with a success rate of over 90%, as reported in a study from the New England Journal.

However, the more we use antibiotics, the less effective they are at treating infections because bacteria can adapt and become resistant to them. It's crucial to follow your clinician's instructions and complete your course of treatment to help minimise the risk of antibiotic resistance.

Important Information

Azithromycin isn't right for everyone, and there are a few things you should keep in mind when using it.

Here's all the official information about it. If anything isn't clear, just let our clinician know, and they can discuss it with you.

Better than my new fancy robo
Great suction power. Doesn't get stuck often. I've had this vacuum for 5 years and it still works great. We got an AirRobo with a mop feature and demoted the Eufy to the basement. But, the eufy works way better and I frequently bring it upstairs to pre-clean before the AirRobo. Love this vacuum! Do you have a version with a mop?

The best little helper!
Size: eufy L60 SES (renewed)
I've never owned a robot vacuum prior to this, and was somewhat curious on how it would work, and what it would really do in my small home. I got the L60 refurbished unit, and it came in a brand new box and it looked brand new when I removed it from the packaging. I charged it up, setup the app and connected it to Wi-Fi, ran a cycle and it was all so easy. It mapped my home and it is was off! It does an absolutely fantastic job. I run it daily and can notice just how much cleaner my hardwood floors are. We have a cat who is intrigued by it, but it does a fantastic job of cleaning up the litter that is tracked from his litter box. That alone is a lifesaver. I will run it in the morning and at night in cats area to keep the hair and litter completely cleaned up. So far I've only had a few small issues where it got stuck, twice from items left out, and once from a dirty sensor. You really need to make sure you have things put away and have the areas picked up, especially of cat toys and shoe laces, and once in a while wipe the sensors off if they get really dusty. I highly recommend this, it truly has been a huge help just in daily pickup and keeping the house clean. Its absolutely worth the money.

Filter is too small for full coverage
Filters are not the correct size, too small. Not worth the risk. Brush arm bristles were also all bent up.

Filters are the wrong size for the Eufy C10 vacuum
The air filters are smaller than the stock air filter. They will probably work if they are stretched out a bit, but as delivered, are unacceptable. The roller and the sweeper are good. Poor filter fit. Original filter size: 1.75 inch by 3.65625 inch. The filters in this set are 1.25 inch by 3.5 inch. Too small.
