Finalist for the 75th National Jewish Book Awards

The awe-inspiring and largely untold story of Hannah Senesh, a female paratrooper in World War II whose courage and sacrifice during a daring mission to rescue Europe's Jews left an indelible mark on history.

In the years before World War II, thousands of young Jewish men and women escaped Europe, seeking safety in the British Mandate for Palestine. By 1942, horrifying reports began to spread about ghettos being liquidated, industrialized killing centers in Poland, and a chilling campaign to exterminate Europe's entire Jewish population. When it became clear that the Allies were unwilling to spare any forces from the war effort to save civilians, the Jewish community in Palestine came up with a daring plan.

Working with British Military Intelligence, an elite unit of young Jewish paratroopers volunteered to return to Eastern Europe. Once behind enemy lines, they would use their expertise in the local languages and terrain to rescue thousands of downed Allied pilots and escaped POWs who were trapped with no way to communicate--highly trained airmen desperately needed by the British and American air forces to fly more bombing missions.

At the same time, these volunteer commandos would help Jewish civilians escape deportation to Auschwitz and other death camps or take up arms in resistance against the Nazis. Hannah Senesh was one of only three female paratroopers who risked everything to infiltrate occupied Europe.

In 1939, at just eighteen years old, Hannah emigrated from Hungary to the British Mandate for Palestine, where she dreamed of being a poet and a schoolteacher. Instead, she became a poet and a paratrooper. Five years after fleeing Europe, Hannah parachuted back into occupied territory as a freedom fighter with the most crucial role in her team: the wireless operator tasked with sending and deciphering top-secret British radio codes.Though captured almost immediately after crossing the border into Hungary, she refused to give up her radio codes or any information about her mission, despite enduring months of horrific torture. Her final act of defiance--choosing to die before a firing squad rather than beg for clemency--cemented her legendary status as the "Jewish Joan of Arc."

Hannah's legacy lives on today in the widely published diary she'd kept since age thirteen and in her poetry which has inspired generations. Each year on Holocaust Remembrance Day, a short poem Hannah composed on the shores of the Mediterranean in 1942 is sung at ceremonies around the world. Titled "Eli, Eli," or "My God, My God," it has become a modern hymn, taught in schools, sung in synagogues, and printed in thousands of prayerbooks.

More than just a gripping historical account of Hannah's life and afterlife, Crash of the Heavens offers a powerful reminder of the human spirit's ability to shine, even in the darkest of times.

Thin, summer weight throw, quality could be better
Color: Southern Blues, Size: Throw (50 in x 60 in), Color: Southern Blues, Size: Throw (50 in x 60 in)
This is a very light weight blanket and the "fleece" is no where to be seen. The blanket looks like cotton but has a very synthetic feel to it. Three layers implies some weight but it is thin. The construction is sloppy, see images, where the stitching looks slap dash to the point where it cannot be reversed. I liked the color, the blue is a little on the aqua side but it is a very nice calming hue. The stitching is quilt like and nicely done. I noticed other reviews felt like it was a medium weight but the only time I would use this would be to use as a cover if the AC went out. To me, the blanket is decorative and not particularly useful.

Average quality lightweight throw, not sold on the color
Color: Southern Blues, Size: Throw (50 in x 60 in), Color: Southern Blues, Size: Throw (50 in x 60 in)
This blanket is fairly soft and lightweight, and better suited for the summer months. I don't think the texture and "Southern Blues" color looks as nice in person as in the photos; less cozy and more like a spare blanket you might find in a hotel closet. Interestingly the care tag says that the outer faces are cotton, but the blanket feels polyester and the content tag indicates the same. The stitching and durability feel ok, and it will probably hold up for the occasional machine washing and low heat drying. Overall it's a fine warm season throw but not particularly notable. I would probably recommend one of the darker colors.

So easy to wash!
Color: Southern Blues, Size: Full/Queen (90 in x 90 in), Color: Southern Blues, Size: Full/Queen (90 in x 90 in)
Two things I love about this coverlet: 1. It's so much easier to wash than a duvet! Or even a duvet cover or a regular blanket, for that matter. The queen-size coverlet fit easily in my washer, and I could have put in another if I had had one. It stayed loose and balanced in the machine - the washer didn't have to readjust its balance during the spin cycles. In the dryer, it didn't wad up into a ball that had to be shaken out every few minutes. It came out feeling softer and looking good, with no wrinkles. 2. It's thinner than a duvet and suitable for warm weather, yet those three stitched layers give it substance and weight that I find more comfortable than sleeping under a pile of fluff or a bed sheet. The soft pastel green color with cream lining (not really reversible due to the hem) is fresh and reminiscent of the 1950s coverlets that my grandmother made. Crocheting was one of her passions, and she'd create huge lacy doilies that lay across the foot of the coverlet. Very pretty look.

Great summer blanket.
Color: Black, Size: Full/Queen (90 in x 90 in)
I purchased this Berkshire 3-layer fleece blanket, and it has quickly become my go-to for my queen size bed. It fits perfectly with plenty of overhang, making it look great as a top layer or a middle layer. What I love most is the breathability. While the material is technically fleece, the 3-layer design provides a nice "cotton-like" feel that doesn't feel heavy or stifling. I tend to sleep hot, and this blanket does a fantastic job of keeping me cool and comfortable through the night while still providing just enough cozy warmth. At this price point, the value is good. It feels much higher quality than other thermal blankets I’ve tried, and it holds up well in the wash without pilling or losing its softness. If you're looking for a versatile, lightweight blanket that works year-round, this is a solid choice. Highly recommended!

Soft, Warm, lightweight, Cozy
Color: Cream, Size: Full/Queen
When I first received this blanket I washed it by itself in cold water with detergent. I did not use a fabric softener or a fabric sheet. I air dried it completely and then put it in my dryer on air fluff for 10 minutes. No shedding and it came out just like I received it. I was concerned about shedding with some of the reviews but I had no issues with that whatsoever. It's warm yet lightweight. I didn't want anything that would make me overly hot because I'm always hot anyway. It takes that cool edge off when you still want your overhead fan on. My daughter said she likes it better than the one she has. I can't remember the brand. I feel it has a good quality. Just make note to wash it as instructed and it'll hold up well and look just as nice as the way you bought it. I'm not sure how the other reviewers that didn't leave 5 stars washed there's, but it couldn't have been the correct way.
