Course Overview

Learn to assemble a beehive on this one day practical course based in our workshops.

Each attendee will be given their own cedar National Beehive to assemble under supervision with all tools provided.*

Each student will receive a cedar flat-pack beehive* with frames and wax and will be shown how to assemble roof, brood box and supers, floor and frames by our experienced tutor. A comprehensive handout is provided about the hive, it's history and tips for assembling it properly, buying equipment and starting out in beekeeping.

This course combined with the taster day is ideal preparation for beekeeping.

Equipment required: 

  • Outdoor clothing
  • Sturdy footwear suitable for working in a workshop
  • Notebook and pen

*Attendees can bring their own beehive. If you're not bringing your own, we will provide a flatpack hive at an additional cost. See more on our shop when applying. 

Entry Requirements

Who is a one day workshop suitable for?

A One Day workshop is an experiential day for individuals with limited to no knowledge of the area being covered.  It is a fun social unaccredited course that could be suitable to be given as a gift or to join in order to meet likeminded people. 

If you are looking at this workshop for Continued Professional Development or enhanced skill development please refer to our fully accredited adult part-time courses.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

If the set screws were white the shelves would be perfect.

I'd give 4 1/2 if there was one. The shelves thwmself are nice I just don't like the visible little black set screws. The shelves themself look great and are not wobbly at all if you install correctly. I purposely installed the bracket upside down because of the little black setting screws; I didnt want them showing because the shelves are above eye level and the screws are black and I didn't want them showing. But that made the shelf lean amd wobbly so I turned them back over the way they are supposed to be and that made them level and sturdy. I guess I'll paint the little screws.
