COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the course, Support Older People with Disabilities. In this program we will explore the unique challenges and needs faced by older adults with disabilities. This course is designed to provide you with a deep understanding of ageing, disabilities, person-centred care approaches, assistive technologies, mobility support, nutritional needs, chronic conditions, mental health, end-of-life care, and legal and ethical considerations in caring for older adults with disabilities.

To begin, we will delve into the understanding of ageing and disability, including definitions, common age-related changes, types and categories of disabilities, and an overview of common disabilities in older adults. We will examine the impact of ageing on physical and cognitive functions, including changes in the musculoskeletal system, cognitive decline, memory loss, sensory impairments, and communication challenges.

A person-centred care approach will be emphasised throughout the course, focusing on principles such as individualised care plans, respect for autonomy and dignity, advocacy, and rights of older people with disabilities. We will explore legal rights and protections, advocacy organisations and resources, and strategies for empowering clients to make informed decisions.

Communication strategies and techniques, including the use of communication aids and technologies, will be discussed to improve communication and enhance client autonomy. We will also cover assistive technologies, adaptive equipment, mobility support, fall prevention strategies, and nutritional needs of older adults with disabilities, including special diets and meal planning.

Understanding common chronic conditions, medication management, monitoring and managing symptoms, mental health and emotional well-being, coping strategies, and emotional support are essential components of this course. We will also address end-of-life care and palliative support, including palliative care principles, bereavement support for families, and ethical considerations in care delivery.

Legal and ethical considerations, including informed consent, decision-making capacity, confidentiality, privacy laws, ethical dilemmas, and cultural sensitivity in care delivery, will be discussed to ensure high-quality and ethical care for older adults with disabilities.

By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide compassionate, person-centred care to older adults with disabilities, respecting their autonomy, dignity, and rights while addressing their unique needs and challenges.

Fresh Spark Plug for the Mowing Season
Just what my push mower needed! Very compatible with my Craftsman M220 push mower. It was the right replacement part and workings just like the original brand B&S plug. Gap was correct right out of the box as my push mower fired right up first pull. Would recommend for anybody with a Craftsman M220.
