Accidents happen. People get hurt, sick, or lost. The temperature drops, the wind picks up, and it starts to rain. Would you know what to do? Many backcountry emergencies are preventable, and even when bad things happen, you can make the difference between a bad outcome and a good one - and maybe even save a life.

Who is Wilderness First Aid (WFA) for?

WFA is the perfect course for the outdoor enthusiast and is required for outings leaders by organizations such as the Sierra Club and Scouts. No prior first aid experience is required. Our WFA class meets or exceeds the guidelines of the Sierra Club, BSA, ACA and many other outdoor organizations.

What is taught?

WFA is a two day course that teaches you to avoid, prevent or cope with emergencies in the wilderness. You’ll learn about environmental and biological hazards, medical problems, and injuries. And you will practice many first aid techniques as well as patient assessment, then put all your skills together in role-playing scenarios.

Where and when is it held?

Our WFA course is held at the Sports Basement Presidio (610 Old Mason St. San Francisco, CA) or at the Sports Basement Berkeley (2727 Milvia St. Berkeley). Please select your location during signup and note that the start time differs by store.

Is there an exam?

No prerequisites and no written exam. We evaluate your skills throughout the course. To be certified, you must:
 Attend and participate in the entire class.
 Demonstrate the skills during class practice sessions.

Do I get certified?

Yes. You will receive NASAR WFA certification which is valid for two years.

Who does the certification come from?

The National Association for Search and Rescue, (NASAR) is dedicated to advancing professional, literary, and scientific knowledge in fields related to search and rescue. NASAR is comprised of thousands of professionals interested in all aspects of search and rescue - the humanitarian cause of saving lives - throughout the United States and around the world. The NASAR WFA certification is recognized throughout the United States and in several other countries.

Breakdown of Class Time

Classroom

We use vivid slides and interactive teaching methods to explain what can cause wilderness emergencies.

Practice

You’ll learn more bandaging and splinting techniques in 16 hours than we teach EMTs in 160 hours, because they have an ambulance full of equipment for a short ride to the hospital, whereas you’ll have what’s in your pack or can improvise before you evacuate the patient. You’ll also learn how to do a full patient assessment for serious injuries or medical problems.

Scenarios

You’ll do realistic, role-playing scenarios to put all your skills together, working solo and in teams. You’ll also learn and practice how to organize patient information and give an oral report to medical professionals.

Best Boxer Briefs for Women!
Color: 09-multicolour (4-pack), Size: Large
I rarely give 5⭐️’s but these deserve it! Hands down, the most comfortable material, stitching, waistband, moisture wicking and overall comfort. They sit right beneath my bellybutton, they wash and dry well and they’re sturdy. I have tried 3 styles and these are the best.

Super soft and comfortable!
I haven't bought new underwear in forever. I used to wear thongs, but now find them incredibly uncomfortable. The last few times I've tried to buy new underwear, the sizing was either way off (I'm a medium, but gave up after having to return them for a large and then extra large) or the quality was horrible (two brands stretch waaaay out and they can fall down while wearing them (I have larger ass-ets, so they shouldn't start to slide down during use). I tried these after buying some bamboo pyjamas and I love them! They are incredibly soft, comfortable, and stretchy. I can use them all day, and they work well, whether I'm lounging on the couch or wearing them under my spandex shorts at the gym, they don't ride up or slide down. They are both comfortable and look sexy, while providing support in all the right places. I haven't had them too long, so I can't speak on the durability, but they appear to be of good quality and I plan to order more, this time without the band.

Well made, light fabric. Waist doesn't roll.
These bamboo underwear really do keep you cool. They fit true to size, and wear easily. the wide elastic waist band doesn't roll on me. They are comfortable to wear, washed and dried easily. The material has some stretch to it, but not a lot. Well made, no stray strings. Perfect fit for me. Just what I was looking for.

Good quality, smooth feel
I got these briefs so recently that have washed just one pair so far. First off, these are very comfortable, the material is soft & bordering silky, good quality sewing. Wash well and minimal if any shrinkage. They do come a bit wrinkled from the dryer but hey, these are underwear and will go on smoothly. If it were a t-shirt, I would look sloppy. I feel the sizing is accurate. No rolling and these don't announce themselves under clothing. Planning on getting more of these boxers and replacing my old panties.

A little snug on the thighs
Size: Medium, Color: Multicoloured G (5-pack)
Super comfy, soft and thin. For reference, I'm 5'6", 135, athletic build. I bought medium. I almost returned them because I thought they were a bit too snug on my thighs, and my thighs are not large at all. I was concerned about panty lines under snug clothing. But, because they're thin, I figured they would probably stretch, so I kept them. So far, I've only worn them under a night shirt, but they're super comfortable and they dont ride up at all. Very nice, but if your thighs are a little thick, you probably won't like them.
