Walter Gay (January 22, 1856, July 13, 1937) was an American painter noted both for his genre paintings of French peasants, paintings of opulent interior scenes and was a notable art collector. Career In 1876, Gay and his wife moved to Paris, France where he became a pupil of Léon Bonnat. A fellow student during this period was John Singer Sargent with whom Gay developed a friendship. Bonnat encouraged the young artist to travel to Spain, where he studied and copied the work of Velázquez. He also encountered the work of Spanish artist, Mariano Fortuny. These artists became an important influence on Gay's brushwork, use of color and understanding of light. Walter Gay received an honorable mention in the Paris Salon of 1885; a gold medal in 1888, and similar awards at Vienna (1894), Antwerp (1895), Berlin (1896) and Munich (1897). He was one of the few artists selected to represent the United States at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889. He became an Officer of the Legion of Honor and a member of the Society of Secession, Munich. During his lifetime, his work was exhibited in every major European city: Antwerp, Berlin, Budapest, Vienna and Paris. In 1904, he was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate Academician. Many young American artists who arrived in Paris in the late 19th-century became Gay's pupils to the extent that the New York Times dubbed him the "Dean of American Artists in Paris." His students who went on to have illustrious careers include: Henry Bacon. His first compositions were still lifes, followed by depictions of 18th-century French peasant life. Later he shifted to genre scenes of realistic depictions of peasants and factory workers. However, from around 1895, he abandoned such simple peasant scenes, virtually creating a new genre with his depictions of luxurious interiors. He is most noted for these paintings of opulent interiors show-casing French chateaux and chic private homes. These painterly works display the luxurious detail of domestic interiors which included fine porcelain, furnishings, gilt mirrors, paintings and focused on the "spirit of an empty room" by avoiding the inclusion of figures. Gay was also a notable collector of artworks. Following his death in 1937, his widow donated some 200 works of Dutch, Italian, English and French paintings, drawings and illustrations to the Louvre indicating something of the collection's importance.

Comfortable and stretchy shorts with pockets!
Size: XX-Large, Color: 2 Pack - Black, Size: XX-Large, Color: 2 Pack - Black
For the most part, I've exclusively worn pants/jeans/slacks since my teens, I'm pretty sure that I've worn a skirt or dress on only 2 occasions in my life, and the skirt part was ankle - floor length those 2 times... Just to paint a picture for anyone reading my review knows how serious I am about hiding my almost reflectively white legs. At least up until I moved from the West Coast all the way to Oklahoma. Not only did I realize that I've taken California/PNW weather for granted all these years, but I quickly learned that I would now be wearing shorts every chance I get in this heat. These shorts aren't made with a heavy type of fabric, they are stretchy and lightweight, and they even have pockets! My wardrobe color pallet is mostly just black or slightly different shades of black, so of course I got these shorts in black. Plus Fruit of the Loom has been a known name brand for as long as I can remember. These are a great value for the money, great quality so far, and the waist is easy/self-explanatory to adjust. I would like to point out that the tie string in the waist somehow got tangled with a stray string or tie string attached to something else in the same load of laundry I put the shorts in. I ended up having to cut off the part that was frayed from getting tangled, so I suggest that the tie around the waist of theses shorts should be knotted/tied together to hopefully avoid the tie string from fraying in the wash or something.

You get what you pay for
Size: 3X-Large, Color: 2 Pack - Black
These are certainly comfortable, and the material itself is decent. However, the material is thin and therefore prone to puncture if you are not careful. The biggest issue is the drawstrings are very poorly sewn in, and have broken out on every pair I have purchased. Instead of being a solid loop that ties in the front, the ends are sewn in the back. The fit is true to the size listed, as long as you are okay relying exclusively on the elastic waistband. They are somewhat acceptable for the price.

Great Fit, Lightweight, and Totally Quiet
Size: 11, Color: New Black05
Great fit and very comfortable once you pick the right size. Lightweight, breathable, and completely silent on hard floors. No squeaks or “suction” sounds like some reviews claimed. Normal packaging, normal opening, no issues at all. Excellent value for the price.

Most comfortable shoes I've ever worn
Size: 11, Color: New Black05
First off, I was not expecting much buying a no-name shoe online, especially for the price. Boy was I in for a surprise... I've owned these for almost a full year, and can confidently say these are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. I normally wear a size 11 and these fit me perfectly. Prior to this the most comfortable shoes I had were some Cole Haans with the Nike air technology. These shoes are so lightweight, so comfortable, I can wear them all day long without feeling a thing. Whenever I (rarely) need to wear a different pair of shoes, I am immediately reminded of how much I used to hate wearing shoes and couldn't wait to take them off. Based on the price, I expected them to wear down quickly. However they are still going strong. Running, hiking, long walks, biking, worn to office / casual events. These shoes have been soaked in mud multiple times, but clean up easily by just throwing them in the washing machine and then the dryer. The soles and the insoles have both worn down a bit over the past year; at this rate I expect to get 1.5 to 2 years out of them before needing to be replaced. So far I must have put at least a thousand miles on these shoes based on how much I wear them. They look good too. I have the all-black pair, and they look decent with jeans and a button up shirt for a night out, but also look natural in an athletic setting with shorts and no socks. Very versatile and subtle. Now for the cons, which are minor. The pattern on the bottom of the sole is prone to some squeaking/suction sounds at first. However after about a month some of the ridges wore down just enough that it was no longer a problem. Second: they are not as breathable as I would have liked. For example, when running or biking, you don't feel any air on your feet. Wearing them out in the sun on a hot summer day, your feet will get a bit stuffy. In fact the fabric is woven tight enough that I wear them in the winter and in the rain, and don't get too cold or wet. So I do wish they made a more breathable version for summer time use. All that being said, these are still the best pair of shoes I've ever had. Ultra light weight, comfortable, and can be worn all day long without feeling any fatigue whatsoever. --- UPDATE: It's been 1 year and 9 months, and the soles on these shoes are fully worn out and ready for replacement. Considering I've put between 1,000-2,000 miles of walking in these, that's pretty good. If anyone from Feethit is reading this, here are my top suggestions to perfect this shoe: 1) Easy fix - change the tread pattern. The current pattern causes suction cup effect on hard floors until it starts to wear down. Simply add some gaps in the circle pattern in the tread and it will remedy that issue. 2) Most importantly, put a thin piece of durable rubber on the bottom of the sole. The sole does wear down after some time and lose traction, especially on smooth wet floors (e.g. in the rain, in a kitchen, etc.). A thin piece of durable rubber would add more traction and also extend the life of the cushion-like sole (which is fantastic, don't change it!). This would easily be worth an extra $5-$10 in the price.
