The Wainstones and Urra MoorThis is an 8 mile (13km) 4 5 hour circular walk which starts from Chop Gate village hall car park (TS9 7JW). We meet up at the carpark at 10am for a 10. 30 start. The walk takes us from the village up Cold Moor to the intersection with the Cleveland Way (CW) and some great views across the moors and north into Teesside. On a clear day we will see Roseberry Topping and Captain Cooks Monument in the far distance. We turn right and follow the CW across
The walk takes us from the village up Cold Moor to the intersection with the Cleveland Way (CW) and some great views across the moors and north into Teesside. On a clear day we will see Roseberry Topping and Captain Cook’s Monument in the far distance. We turn right and follow the CW across to the Wainstones and the craggy outcrop for a very small scramble. From the top we follow the path down to Clay Bank and with caution cross the main road and commence the ascent up towards the trig point on Urra Moor, the highest point of the North York Moors. From this point we turn right and head off over the moor before descending back down into Chop Gate.
Start: The Village Hall (TS9 7JW) car park on the outskirts of the village, this is a free parking venue.
Distance: 8 miles (13km)
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
Terrain: Established moorland pathways, bridleways, there are several ascents on this route.
Duration: 5-6 hours
Group: This is a private guided walk and we take bookings for between 4 and 6 people.
Price: £30 per person. We require a minimum of four walkers for this event to go ahead.
What you will need:
In order for you to enjoy and take full advantage of the events on offer it is imperative that you look after yourself and turn up with the appropriate kit. We highly recommend suitable walking shoes/boots, proper outdoor clothing for the time of year and a reasonable level of walking fitness. Unfortunately young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
