Texas-based artist Alicia Eggert created this striking flashing neon sign, which was originally installed on the roof of a derelict building in Philadelphia. The sign cycles through the phrases “All the light you see is from the past” and “All you see is past” before turning off completely. This artwork highlights the idea that light takes time to travel; by the time it reaches our eyes, everything we perceive is essentially a glimpse into the past. As we look farther into space, we also peer further back in time.
