This platinum Edwardian negligee necklace features four Old Mine Cut diamonds and a diamond encrusted halo element. The chain consists of bar links that are twisted into a figure-eight and held together with tiny links. An elliptical element reminiscent of a halo is placed horizontally, encrusted with tiny Rose Cut diamonds along the front, and backset with diamonds so that the bottom portion of the elliptical is also encrusted, giving the illusion of a continuous line of diamonds all the way around a halo. The halo has a 14k gold back. Four larger diamonds drop from the halo—two on each side, bezel set and held together with the figure-eight link seen in the chain. The larger diamonds are beautifully squared, chunky Old Mine Cut diamonds with very high tables and very large open culets.
Negligee necklaces came into popularity in the late Victorian era and remained popular throughout the Edwardian era. They are characterized by two parallel but asymmetrical drops, often dangling from a lacy or geometric bar element, and echoing the flowing nature of an evening gown.
The necklace contains four antique natural Old Mine Cut diamonds and 13 natural antique Rose Cut diamonds. The Old Mine Cuts are approximately 3.3 x 3.3 x 3 mm each, and the Rose Cuts are 1.5 mm each. The necklace has an approximate TCW of 1 carat. The diamonds range from J-K in color and VS2-SI1 in clarity. The length of the necklace is 15 1/4” and it weighs 3.64 grams.
