Hole of Horcum WalkThis is a 7 mile (11. 25 km) circular walk which normally takes about 3 to 4 hours of gentle walking to complete. We meet and start the walk from the Hole of Horcum carpark situated on the A169. The walk starts at 10. 30am. This walk starts by crossing the main road from the carpark where you are immediately exposed to the outstanding view across the Hole of Horcum. We follow the moorland track across the top of the bowl on excellent walking terrain
This walk starts by crossing the main road from the carpark where you are immediately exposed to the outstanding view across the Hole of Horcum. We follow the moorland track across the top of the bowl on excellent walking terrain and head for the village of levisham, passing Dundale Pond on the way. From Levisham we follow the woodland trail as it contours round the steep valley and back towards the bottom of the Hole of Horcum. We cross Levisham Beck and head off towards Low Horcum before walking up the gentle uphill section and back to the start. The views on this walk are quite spectacular all the way round. There is evidence along this walk of early settlers and the 13th century monks who grazed their livestock here and were probably responsible for creating the small pond shown on the map as Dundale Pond at the head of Dundale Griff. We can stop and take refreshments at the very popular Horseshoe PH in Levisham village if restrictions have been lifted.
In order for you to enjoy and take full advantage of the events on offer it is imperative that you look after yourself and turn up with the appropriate kit. We highly recommend suitable walking shoes/boots, proper outdoor clothing for the time of year and a reasonable level of walking fitness. Unfortunately young people under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
