The Metasequoia Tree more commonly known as the Amber Glow tree is part of the pre-historic lineage of the Dawn Redwood. This species is one of the world’s oldest living conifers known to have existed for at least 50 million years and is also considered a living fossil.
The Amber Glow tree naturally grows pyramidal in stature, which does not only help the trees overall physical appearance it also means there is no pruning required. Over time the Metasequoia develops a large trunk with textured bark with deep ridges that grow at a particularly fast rate.
Dawn Redwoods were once considered extinct until these Autumnal coloured redwoods were discovered to be growing in China. Usually Redwoods are too large to grow in a garden, however the Amber Glow Redwood is significantly smaller than its predecessor. Allowing the Metasequoia to be an ideal standalone specimen tree after just a few years that will draw attention all year round.
The Metasequoia will give ornamental value from the Spring through to Autumn.
