Description

The Things of Earth: Treasuring God by Enjoying His Gifts (2nd Ed)The world is full of good things. The Christian life is a journey in holiness: from one degree of glory to the next. But for too long there has been an unstated belief that as Christians grow in holiness, the things of earth will, as the hymn says, grow strangely dim. But Dr. Joe Rigney sees it differently. As the poet once said, The world is charged with the grandeur of God. The smile of a wife. Baseball in October. The Sawtooth Mountain Range.

The world is full of good things.

Toddlers’ laughing. Meatballs in spaghetti. A very good whiskey. What are Christians to make of these earthly pleasures?

In this book, Rigney offers relief to Christians wrongly burdened by anxious guilt that they might enjoy their stuff too much. There is another way besides Idolatry and Ingratitude. This book will instill a rich gratitude to the Father of Lights, the Giver of every good and perfect gift.

Featuring a foreword by John Piper.

From the Book

"False guilt kills true joy and ruins us for fruitful ministry. Impossible obligations lead to constant failure and incurable guilt, which only serve to breed greater sin. Read that again. Impossible obligation. Constant failure. Incurable guilt. Greater sin.

In fact, to feel guilty for something that God does not regard as a sin is itself a sin. We ought to repent of our rebellion against our creaturely limitations. To erect a false standard of holiness is legalism, and the fact that we’re failed Pharisees doesn’t mitigate the sin." ~Joe Rigney

Joe Rigney serves as Fellow of Theology at New Saint Andrews College. He is a husband, a father of three, and the author of a number of books, including Leadership and Emotional Sabotage and Strangely Bright.

There is no side to side stability
Size: 28 Inch
This product was easy to assemble and install and came with all parts. The product itself is very sturdy, looks good with a nice industrial aesthetic BUT - there is ZERO stability side to side (lengthwise) as the plates which attach to the wood are too small. I have them set closer than the picture so it is not an issue of being too far apart. If anyone else had this problem AND FIGURED OUT A FIX FOR IT - please share!!

Fairly stable. Good value for the price
Size: 16 Inch, Size: 16 Inch
Great set of stands. You have to tighten them pretty snugly to minimize wobble. Given they are metal they’ll have a little bit more give than solid wood. Even so, a tall desk I built with them remains stable and level.

An incredibly thorough medicinal herb book
Format: Hardcover
I am a self taught herbalist for around 7 years. I love this series of books. I'd say it's not for beginners and novices. It's very thorough and gives formularies and uses for many different ailments. It's an excellent investment if you want to really go deep into herbal medicine. These, by far, are in my top 10 books, and this has 5 volumes. They take up half of my favorites. They go into the *hush hush* herbs as well which makes my heart skip a beat. But wait, theres an herb for that, Leonotis Nepetifolia. I think I'll recover, thanks to this book.
