The Weymouth features smooth transitions, and the mouthpiece—designed to follow the shape of the sensitive palatal arch—tapers towards the centre.

The high and forward-angled port creates space for thick tongues. Once accepted, this special shape ensures an even and soft distribution of pressure across the tongue. This makes the Weymouth ideal for horses with fleshy, thick tongues as well as for sensitive horses that tend to evade tongue pressure by lifting or sticking out the tongue. The short shanks provide a quick response without generating excessive pressure on the poll.

The horse’s mouth is generally slightly narrower where the Weymouth sits. It is recommended to choose the Weymouth 0.5 to 1 cm smaller than the bradoon. It is important that the side pieces sit close to the corners of the mouth. If there is too much space between the mouth corner and the side piece, the Weymouth may become unstable or tilt.
