Kakapos, also known as Owl Parrots, are large, nocturnal, flightless parrots endemic to New Zealand. They are extinct throughout their natural range, due to the introduction of mammalian predators, and now only exist on three small managed islands.
Conservation efforts have helped slowly increase the population to about 147 individuals, plus 77 recent hatchlings!
