About the work

On the occasion of Eduardo Paolozzi, 16 February - 14 May 2017, at the Whitechapel Gallery, Huma Bhabha has created a new etching edition in homage to the artist.

In her works on paper, Bhabha creates atmospheric images, often figurative, blending animal and human features. Huma Bhabha’s edition for the Whitechapel Gallery derives from a photographic collage. An image of a tree in the landscape is combined with a donkey-like totem, recalling her sculptural assemblages, which often incorporate the use of tribal masks. Layering the rich dark tones of the photogravure and emerald green of the spit bit e etching to produce a vibrant enchanting effect, this print undermines the documentary tradition with a darker, personal and fantastical dimension.

About the artist

Huma Bhabha is best known for her sculptural works. Her poetic assemblages are born out of tactile materials such as Styrofoam, air-dried clay, wire, cork and scraps of construction material. Often referred to as ‘post-apocalyptic' in their aesthetic, these works combine figuration with abstract architectural elements and a sense of landscape. Informed by a vast array of cultural references, from the cinematography of 1979 sci-fi classic "Stalker" to the architecture of Cambodia's ancient temples at Angkor Wat, Bhabha's work transcends a singular time and place. Instead, these strands come together in a highly personal exploration of what the artist describes as the ‘eternal concerns' found across all cultures: war, colonialism, displacement and memories of home.

Sturdy and easy to open flaps
Format: Board book
Buy the book! Purchased this a second time as our toddler loves it so much and our first copy was very loved. The board book pages are thick and sturdy holding up well to impulsive throwing. Flaps are easy for little fingers to open and this is hands down our 18mo olds favorite book and she runs over with it daily to "read". Lots of fun things to point to to practice speech as well.

Brushes up bedtime routine!
Style: Sonic Toothbrush with 2 Heads
My kids have very weak enamel with tons of cavities. It would take us forever to get their teeth clean because I use the plaque dye tablets to make sure their teeth are actually clean after brushing. Because of this we would spend up to half an hour brushing teeth over and over and over again. With this toothbrush the kids love it first off. Then it has a timer on it so the kids know when they are done brushing and it works great. The kids will use it once and then I will spot check their teeth while we're flossing and I will take a regular toothbrush and hit any areas that this missed. And those are only a couple small areas. Not only does it work great the kids love it and it saves me so much time and headache at night when everybody should be in bed!
