CLASSIC from Carl!

Deluxe version of this killer collection!

180 Gram 45RPM Audiophile Vinyl, Mono All-Analog Mastering!

Cut to Vinyl from the Original Master Tapes for the First Time in Decades!

Intervention Records is proud to announce the first vinyl release in its Intervention Sun Records Hi-Fi Series, Carl Perkins' groundbreaking rockabilly classic, 1957's ''Dance Album of Carl Perkins.'' This December 2025 premium vinyl release commemorates the 70th anniversary of Sun's Sam Philips recording Carl Perkins' smash ''Blue Suede Shoes,'' which was released as a single on New Year's Day 1956. ''Dance Album'' isn't just full of legendary songs that gave birth to rock n' roll itself, many of these tunes are now rock standards that have stood the test of time. These iconic songs have been covered by Elvis Presley, The Beatles (as a band plus George, Paul and Ringo solo), Johnny Cash and so many more! As great as many of these versions are from over the decades, arguably no one ever did these tunes with more swag than Carl himself on ''Dance Album!'' The SMASH hits include Perkins-written classics like ''Blue Suede Shoes,'' ''Honey Don't,'' ''Matchbox,'' and ''Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby.'' The album also includes Carl's covers of ''Only You'' and ''Wrong Yo Yo.'' Intervention worked closely with Sun Records and the Archive Team at Iron Mountain to complile a completely NEW set of A/B reel master tapes for this release. In the late 1960s when Shelby Singleton puchased Sun Records from legendary Sam Phillips, the original 7'' single master tape reels were compiled onto many different sets of 1/4'' tapes. Identifying any one tape as ''THE master'' for a given song is no longer possible, but hours and hours were spent by Sun and IR's Shane Buettner listening to tapes and identifying the absolute best sounding tape version of each and every song. Kelly Pribble, Mark Berger and Scott Delaney at Iron Mountain made flat 1/4'' transfers at our direction to a newly minted set of 1/4'' A/B reels for this release. According to our collective research, ''Dance Album'' hasn't been cut to vinyl from analog tape at least since the early 1980s, but perhaps not since the 1960s! No compiled A/B reels exist in the Sun archives so our belief is that the many reels we listned to are indeed THE original master tapes ... Due to being mono and packed with quick-paced songs, CoHEARent Audio's Kevin Gray was able to cut the entire program on a 12'' 180G LP at 45 RPM for MAXIMUM SOUND QUALITY making this a truly unique and utterly Hi-Fi experience for music lovers everywhere of every age. The sound quality of these newly minted master tapes will stun anyone who thinks they know this iconic album. On IR's release you hear everything put on tape by Sam Phillips at legendary Sun Studios for the first time. The vocals and instruments have a majesty and clarity that's unrivaled on any previous release, testament to Sam's extraordinary talents as a recording engineer. This 180G 45 RPM release is pressed on ultra-quiet 180G vinyl by boutique press Gotta Groove Records. RTI did the plating in a full 3-Step process to ensure the highest possible sound quality. Of course IR's paid no less attention to the album art, and very special thanks are owed to Joe Goldmark, who loaned us his very-hard-to-find original jacket for color reference. The album art is of course restored by IR Art Director Tom Vadakan and authentically realized by the wizards at Stoughton Printing as a gorgeous Old-Style ''Tip-On'' jacket with authentic ''brown-in'' blanks. In a first for IR, this release features liner notes written by Sun Records historian Colin Escott, who consulted on this release and was extremeely generous with his time and knowledge throughout. Thank you Colin!

Look for more announcements soon from IR for the next releases in the Sun Records Hi-Fi Series!

Good news, everyone! The Art of Futurama is here!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I always thought Futurama was simple and fun! However, after reading this book, I now understand that beneath its apparent simplicity lies an entire universe of complex experience, research, innovation, hard work, and talent. ★★★★☆ Art Unlike many other artbooks that rely heavily on production stills, this one is 90% sketchbook and finalized line art designs—a rare and delightful find. You'll not only discover the initial designs for all the main characters but also learn how to draw them. Each curve and line in the characters' designs is intentional, contributing to their unique personalities. The book also features three fold-out sections: New New York's buildings and junkyard, the Nimbus ship in orbit, and the Planet Express. While these offer detailed designs for enthusiasts, I didn’t find them particularly necessary, as there’s little in them that demands close study. ★★★★☆ Text The story of Futurama's creation is a joy to read. The book is divided into a few intros and nine chapters, each featuring two pages of text that include quotes from interviews with the show’s creators about their memories of its production. Additionally, there’s a wealth of quotes accompanying the images. I especially enjoyed learning how the team found inspiration for New New York by purchasing reference books in New York City bookstores. The integration of 3D and 2D animation—which was revolutionary at the time—is also well-documented. However, the advertised Futurama episode guide feels redundant. It offers nothing beyond episode titles and omits seasons 8 and 9 entirely, with no explanation given for their exclusion. ★★★★☆ Book Design The book's design features a creative transparent front cover case, a landscape layout, well-placed text and images, and a large, easy-to-read font. The page numbers are conveniently placed at the center of the page edge, making navigation effortless. Despite its strengths, I still feel the fold-outs are unnecessary and could have been omitted without any loss of value. ★★★★★ Price This book offers excellent quality for its price! Released in November 2024, it’s available as of January 2025 for $25. To paraphrase one of Futurama's opening chyron jokes (the texts below the show's logo at the beginning of each episode): "If you don’t buy it, someone else will." ★★★★☆ Overall Impressions It took me two relaxed sessions to fully read this book, and I can confidently say it’s impossible to get bored with it (or is that just nostalgia talking?). The hundreds of well-crafted line art illustrations of characters, assets, and backgrounds showcase the creators’ immense talent. The accompanying text is both engaging and informative, and the early sketches of the main characters provide a fascinating narrative of their development. That said, I was left wanting more. At 176 pages, the book feels a bit short, especially since it doesn’t include a single chapter dedicated to seasons 8 and 9, which aired after a ten-year hiatus. Nevertheless, The Art of Futurama is an excellent addition to any home library or a thoughtful gift for fans who grew up watching this iconic show in the late 1990s and 2000s.
