The LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box is a 3-pod countertop hydroponic system that grows herbs, microgreens and flowers indoors, using a full-spectrum LED grow light and a self-watering reservoir that lasts up to two weeks, on about 9 watts. It's a complete indoor herb garden kit, with no proprietary pods and no subscription, and it works with any seeds and nutrients you choose.

Grow fresh food with almost no effort

A hydroponic grow box like the LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box makes indoor growing simple. You grow flowers, herbs and microgreens without soil, and because the roots feed straight from the water, growth is usually faster and cleaner than a pot on the windowsill. Set it on a bench and you have a fresh indoor herb garden with its own grow light — a compact kitchen herb garden that mostly runs itself.

Designed to be hands-off

This countertop hydroponic garden runs with one-touch controls, so it's largely hands-off — home hydroponics without the fuss. The three-level light lets you match the brightness to what you're growing, and the plants do the rest.

The LED grow light

The built-in full-spectrum LED grow light stands in for sunlight, so plants grow well indoors all year. It's gentle to sit next to, too.

The self-watering reservoir

A patented floating buoy sits in the self-watering reservoir and shows the water level at a glance. It works like a self-watering planter and an automatic plant watering system, feeding the plants between refills — the reservoir holds up to about two weeks of water, so there's little to do day to day.

Clean, soil-free growing

Because it grows in water rather than soil, this hydroponic herb garden avoids most of the pests and soil-borne problems you'd get in a pot. The roots get plenty of air and feed directly from the hydroponic nutrient you add, and the removable support pole moves up as the plants grow.

Low running cost

It runs on about 9 watts. In the 8-hour daylight mode that works out to roughly 2.16 kWh a month — only a few cents a day. It also uses far less water than growing in soil, so a desktop hydroponic garden is cheap and low-waste to keep going.

What you can grow

The LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box is flexible about what you grow — an easy indoor herb and vegetable garden for greens, microgreens and hydroponic flowers. Its three pods give you room to swap plants in and out, and it handles vegetables like lettuce, spinach and Asian greens as well as herbs.

  • Flowers: pansies, zinnias, cherry blossoms, Catharanthus roseus and maidenhair ferns.
  • Herbs: basil, mint, thyme, Russian tarragon and lemon balm.
  • Leafy greens: romaine, chicory and Indian lettuce.
  • Microgreens and sprouts: soybean, mung bean, red bean, pea sprouts, wheatgrass and buckwheat.
  • Other projects: it even handles unusual plants like Cordyceps militaris, and you can set up a small succulent arrangement in the countertop grow box.

Finishes and fit

It comes in three finishes — Mint Green, Sakura Pink and Moonlight White — and the compact shape makes it an indoor garden for small spaces: a kitchen bench, an office desk or a windowsill.

What's in the box

Included as a complete indoor herb garden kit: the grow box, full-spectrum LED panel, adjustable light pole and power supply.

You'll add (sold separately): grow sponges or substrate, your seeds, and a hydroponic nutrient solution — all easy to source from any Australian garden or hydroponics supplier. The Desktop Grow Box works with any standard hydroponic nutrient, so you're never locked into one brand.

Getting started and care

Set up: slot the light pole and LED panel into the container, then connect the power — the indicator light breathes gently when it's ready.

Plant in 6 steps:

  1. Assemble the grow box and lift out the planting tray.
  2. Spread an even layer of grow substrate across the tray.
  3. Transplant seedlings (or sow seeds), then scatter a few paving stones over any exposed substrate; keep the float clean.
  4. Set the tray back in and add clean water through the fill hole until the float rises to the top.
  5. Connect the power and choose the daylight mode that suits your plants.
  6. Check the water once or twice a week and refill when the float drops; add nutrient with the water, and clean the unit every couple of months.

Starting from seed (herbs, flowers, lettuce)? Keep the substrate completely moist.

Plant-specific care:

  • Carnivorous plants: use low-mineral water (rainwater or purified), avoid frequent misting (it washes away the glandular mucus), keep well ventilated, and refill as soon as the float drops.
  • Succulents: water every 7 to 10 days (up to 12 in summer), about 500 ml per top-up, with good ventilation.

Cleaning and care: unplug when not in use; wipe with a soft cloth and warm or clean water (no detergents, solvents, alcohol or alkaline cleaners); clean the plug and socket periodically; and clean the unit thoroughly after each growing cycle.

No proprietary pods, no subscription

Many countertop gardens lock you into branded seed pods you have to keep rebuying. The LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box doesn't. Grow from any seeds and a standard hydroponic nutrient — sourced cheaply from any Australian supplier — so there's no subscription and no ongoing lock-in. You choose what to grow, and what to spend.

Australian business, local support

Designed and backed by LaNiTex Australia on the Sunshine Coast, the Desktop Grow Box ships Australia-wide with a standard Australian plug — no overseas adapters — and friendly support in your own timezone.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many plants can the LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box hold?

Three growing pods. At 318 x 120 x 367 mm and 0.86 kg, it sits on a desk, kitchen bench, or windowsill, with room for a small run of herbs, microgreens, or flowers and no garden needed.

What plants grow well in the LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box?

Compact plants do best: herbs like basil, mint and thyme; microgreens such as wheatgrass, buckwheat and bean sprouts; leafy greens like romaine and chicory; and small flowers like pansies and zinnias. It won't suit big fruiting plants such as tomatoes or capsicum.

How often do I need to refill the LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box?

The built-in reservoir holds roughly two weeks of water. A patented floating buoy rises and falls with the level, so you can see at a glance when it's getting low. Top it up and add nutrient solution when it does — no daily watering to remember.

How much electricity does the LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box use?

It draws 9W at 12V, which works out to about 2.16 kWh a month — only a few cents a day to run, so it's barely anything for fresh herbs on the bench all year.

What does the Desktop Grow Box cost, and what is included?

You'll find the current price at the top of this page. Every unit is made from food-grade, UV-resistant ABS with a full-spectrum LED panel, and it's backed by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Sold by LaNiTex Hydro Garden, Sippy Downs QLD (ABN 47 682 768 967).

Does the LaNiTex Desktop Grow Box use proprietary seed pods?

No, and that's the point. Plenty of countertop gardens lock you into branded pods you have to keep rebuying; this one takes any seeds and a standard hydroponic nutrient, both cheap and easy to find at any Australian garden or hydroponics supplier. No subscription, no lock-in. You decide what to grow and what to spend.

Does the Desktop Grow Box come with a grow light, and what kind?

Yes. It's a built-in full-spectrum LED that mimics natural sunlight, so plants grow well indoors with no sunny windowsill required. It draws only about 9W, and the light is gentle to sit beside.

Can I grow vegetables in the Desktop Grow Box?

Yes. Compact, fast-growing vegetables and leafy greens like lettuce, romaine, spinach and Asian greens do well, alongside herbs and microgreens. What it won't handle is big fruiting plants like full-size tomatoes or capsicum; they need more root space than three pods can give.

How does the Desktop Grow Box work?

Hydroponically, in water rather than soil. You put seeds or seedlings in the three pods, fill the reservoir with water and a hydroponic nutrient, and switch on the LED. The roots feed directly from the nutrient mix while the full-spectrum light handles the rest, which is why growth tends to be faster and cleaner than soil.

Is the Desktop Grow Box good for beginners?

Yes, it's made with first-timers in mind. No soil to manage, and the patented floating buoy tells you exactly when to top up the water. The LED runs on its own and setup takes only a few minutes, so it's an easy way to start growing food indoors.

Does the Desktop Grow Box need sunlight, or can it grow without natural light?

None at all. The built-in full-spectrum LED gives plants everything they'd normally get from the sun, so it works in an apartment, on a kitchen bench, or in a windowless room. Just keep it plugged in so the light can run its daily cycle.

Fluffy and Nice Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
… this would have made 5 stars but for 2 reasons. A.) there were quite a few typos; misspelled words, missing quotations, “the his” mistakes, and various signs that maybe a proofread would do good. B.) the writing was quite textbook. Late blooming omega is struggling with her new self, finds a absurdly wealthy pack of alphas, every thing is almost insta-love but she resists, then decides to love herself and let everyone be happy. Rian was my favourite (obviously the author’s favourite too because he got the most page time) but I wish we could see more of his CEO side? He went to work maybe ONCE the entire time. Gray was supposed to be the “growly one” but he turned out to be puppy dog. Lucas was a genius brainiac doctor - but also super alpha with an aggressive hindbrain with a breeding k*nk?? And then there was no actual “breeding”?? Spice 3/5 - normally omegaverse books are super high on messy smut but this was tamer. Romance 3/5 - insta-love that was then resisted because of personal hangup’s Plot 2/5 - weird paced head hopping, showing the same scene from different POV’s that made me feel like it was 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. Humour 4/5 - there were a dozen lines that genuinely made me chuckle out loud Would have been five stars but the lack of proofreading and the predictable plot made me unable to get up to ADORED IT level - four stars is still and official ENJOYED IT, y’all. This isn’t a bad rating. The “Club Heat” has intriguing possibilities so I’m going to give the second one a shot.

Fun with a late blooming omega
Format: Kindle
I like this book. The story is fun, cute, and sexy. There's just a little drama, some excellent, steamy scenes, and a fairly good relationship building storyline. I especially like how all the main characters are a bit older than the usual 20 somethings I tend to see in this kind of book. Having said that, I wish there were more descriptions of the places, as well as the food in the fancy restaurant. I enjoyed the cocktails at the club, so I missed that kind of detail when Gray took Madison on a dinner date. I also wish there had been more interaction between Lucas and Madison, and Lucas and Rian. It felt a bit lopsided, with a focus on Rian, Madison, and Gray. I wish it had been proofread - there are a lot of typos, but nothing too distracting.

Madison Deserved Better
Format: Kindle
Madison was a beta...except she wasn't any longer. She was a late presenting Omega. And she was struggling. She was tall and thin, not tiny and curvy. She was opinionated. She was everything an Omega was not. After suffering through her first heat, her friends took her to Ardor, a club where Omegas came to safely find Alphas. She's not expecting much but then she connects with a sexy beta. And when she meets his Alphas, they set her body on fire. Maybe, she's found her no-strings-attached heat pack. Maybe, she's found something more. I could not connect with the characters in this book, so their story never resonated with me. And there was no love story; there was sex. Grey made it clear from the beginning that he had a true love and it was his beta boy, Rian. He went so far as to reassure Rian “Say the word, I’ll never touch her again. Lucas can put the babies in her. I only need you, beta boy”. So, Madison was there for babies, no emotions needed. Nice. No, thank you. I want the Omega to be the center of their world, not an incubator. Lucas and Rian weren't any better. After her heat, they let her leave. Not one of them made her feel valued. No one gave her a reason to stay or even offered a cuddle. And the sex didn't even come across as mind-blowing. Madison deserved better.
