Limited to only 88 pieces worldwide, the Visconti Checkmate offers not only a luxurious and breaktaking design in fine writing but an immersive experience that plays out over the surface of this incredible statement piece. In addition to being another fascinating and engaging writing instrument from the masterful craftspeople at Visconti, the Checkmate is also a functioning chessboard. With 64 constrasting squares making up a miniature chessboard pattern divided between the barrel and cap, the pen is accompanied by 32 magnetic pieces in light silver and dark bronze colors to position along the instrument's checkerboard battlefield and play out actual games of chess in an innovative, cylindrical space.
Featuring symbolic kings at either end of the instrument and beautifully appoint bronze trim, the Checkmate comes with all the accoutrement you would expect from a fine writing intrument from Visconti, including a palladium-coated 18k gold nib and the trademark double reservoir power filler. The cap features a magnetic closure which, thanks to the inclusion of discreet markings, both hides the separation when closed to more compeltely present the chessboard and to make opening the instrument intuitive and simple.
The wooden presentation box also features a chessboard motif, with light-and-dark colored recessed wood panels and a unique stand to inspect the layout of your matches as the pieces advance across the board.
