The bailout was justified because of shareholder primacy. They took money from taxes of those who don't have shares to benefit executives and shareholders who have shares. Yet the government did not bail out people who lost homes, pensions, or people's jobs. We felt the bite of betrayal. The middle and lower economically strapped classes could no longer deny the fact that the government serves the corporate and wealthy masters. Both sides of the aisle felt outrage.
