Iraq Since 1958: From Revolution to DictatorshipIn the West, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990 and later Saddam Husain's political survival following a punishing defeat in war have been greeted with bewilderment and incomprehension. The history of politics in Iraq and the context which has given rise to Saddam Husayn's violent Ba'thist regime have been barely understood. In the West, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990 and later Saddam Husain's political survival following a punishing defeat in war have been greeted with bewilderment and incomprehension. The history of politics in Iraq and the context which has given rise to Saddam Husayn's violent Ba'thist regime have been barely understood.

This highly praised book is the first to explore the emergence of modern Iraq from its foundation in 1920 into the 21st century. It covers the period from the revolution in 1958, concentrating particularly on Saddam Husayn's rise to power and his consolidation as leader. It is the only political history of modern Iraq now available to provide a critical analysis of the Ba'thist regime which has ruled since 1968.

The authors also explore the role and decline of the Iraqi Communist Party, the shifting policies towards the Kurds and the Shi'is, the nationalisation of oil and Iraq's relations with its neighbours. With the extensive revision and updatings of Peter Sluglett, they provide a stimulating analysis of the country's economy, now so drastically affected by international sanctions.

Real Promo blurb
As the world holds its breath while the US-Iraq confrontation approaches its denouement, here is the definitive story of Saddam Husayn, his rise to power and the historical background to his dictatorship.

This is an excellent, reasoned, historical analysis of Iraq, lucidly written, theoretically astute, empirically based, politically firm.'

Love it takes up less space and easy to use
Color: Grey Red
The can opener works awesome easy to use and the magnet helps hold the lid after use. Easy to clean and easy to stack to the can. Batter life seems great and the product seems durable no issues. Highly recommend.

So far
Color: Black+Grey
I did have a electric can opener before and that brand didn't really work well at all. With this one I have only opened 3 cans with it so far and it worked perfectly. I am very happy with the product and it is really easy to work with. I didn't know if it was going to work on a bigger can and when I put it on it did the job just like it is supposed too.

Frustrating Opener
Color: Black+Grey
I love and hate these at the same time! I have had several and this one will not stop once it has started! Even though there is a button that says start/stop whenever you push it, it just starts it all over again and I can’t get the lid out. Very frustrating.

Effortless opening and no sharp edges.
We recently went camping and realized we really needed a reliable opener, and this one was a lifesaver. It’s incredibly easy to use, you just set it on the can, press the button, and it does all the work for you. I love that it leaves a smooth edge and feels sturdy, plus the black finish looks really nice. This has quickly become one of my favorite gadgets for making meal prep much faster, whether at home or on a trip.

So simple to use, I'm amazed
Color: Black
Wonderfully helpful. Description is accurate, shipping was quick. I saw a few poor comments, but I have none so far! The can opener has opened cans of several sizes, from tomato paste to large cans of tomatoes; soup cans to strangely shaped. It's opened 30 or so already without loss of power. It's a little noisy, but about equal to that of a stand up opener. It fits in my drawer, which is less deep than most kitchen drawers. Most of all, it's beyond easy to use for arthritic hands. The ONLY CHALLENGE I have is that it sometimes fails to stop when it should. MANUFACTURER: if you read this and have advice, please share. At this point, I'd say this is a great value for the money.
