PSB PWM2 On-Wall Speaker at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The PWM2 is a premium 3-way on-wall speaker from PSB Speakers (Pickering, Ontario, Canada), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Engineered under the mentorship of legendary acoustic designer Paul Barton and part of the celebrated Performance Wall Mount Series, the PWM2 delivers a level of tonal balance and soundstage depth rarely found in flat-panel speaker form. Its five-driver array combines dual 4" carbon fibre cone woofers, dual 3" chambered carbon fibre midrange drivers, and a 1" ferrofluid-cooled titanium dome tweeter, achieving a frequency response of 70Hz to 23kHz on-axis and an in-room sensitivity of 89dB. Sized to complement a 70" flatscreen TV, the PWM2 mounts vertically or horizontally and serves equally as a left, center, right, or surround channel in any home theatre or high-fidelity audio system.

Advanced Driver Technology and Carbon Fibre Construction

Every driver in the PWM2 was purpose-designed for on-wall acoustic conditions rather than adapted from an existing bookshelf or floorstanding design. The dual 4" woofers and dual 3" midrange units each feature carbon fibre cones, rubber surrounds, and cast baskets, paired with four-layer voice coils and powerful Neodymium-assisted magnet systems for exceptional detail retrieval, low distortion, and superior power handling. The chambered midrange enclosures isolate each driver acoustically, eliminating inter-driver interference across the critical 300Hz to 3kHz vocal and instrument range. The result is a midrange presentation that independent reviewers at SoundStage Access have described as seamless and highly resolved, capturing subtleties in vocals and acoustic instruments that most on-wall competitors simply cannot reproduce.

Titanium Dome Tweeter with Waveguide Integration

The proprietary 1" titanium dome tweeter at the heart of the PWM2's high-frequency section is ferrofluid cooled and driven by a Neodymium magnet, delivering both high sensitivity and robust power handling across the upper octaves. A precision-shaped waveguide mounted directly in front of the tweeter controls dispersion and matches the tweeter's off-axis response to the midrange drivers at the crossover point, producing a seamlessly integrated transition with no audible frequency discontinuity. This waveguide geometry also ensures that listeners seated off-axis, a common scenario when speakers flank a TV, experience the same coherent soundstage as those in the primary listening position. CEPro noted in their hands-on review that the PWM2's soundstage imaging remained stable and wide even from non-ideal seating positions.

Slim-Profile Bass-Reflex Cabinet for Any Interior

The PWM2's MDF cabinet measures just 85mm deep (approximately 3.38"), allowing it to hug virtually any wall surface without protruding into the room. Slot-style bass-reflex ports at each end of the cabinet extend low-frequency output down to a 40Hz LF cutoff, delivering bass performance that SoundStage Access reviewers compared favourably to high-performing bookshelf models. The magnetically attached acoustically transparent cloth grille maintains a clean, uncluttered appearance when the speaker is in use, and the overall profile is slim enough that the satin white finish effectively disappears against a white wall. Interior designers, architects, custom home builders, and AV system integrators across Canada regularly specify the PWM2 precisely because its aesthetics are as considered as its acoustic engineering.

Key Features

  • 3-Way Five-Driver Design: Two 4" carbon fibre woofers, two chambered 3" carbon fibre midrange drivers, and one 1" titanium dome tweeter work in concert to reproduce the full audio spectrum with accuracy and low distortion.
  • Ferrofluid-Cooled Titanium Dome Tweeter: The proprietary 1" tweeter features ferrofluid cooling and a Neodymium magnet for high sensitivity and extended power handling, paired with a front-mounted waveguide for smooth crossover integration.
  • Carbon Fibre Cone Drivers: All woofer and midrange cones are manufactured from carbon fibre with rubber surrounds and cast baskets, delivering exceptional stiffness-to-mass ratios for low coloration and detailed transient response.
  • Four-Layer Voice Coils: Advanced four-layer voice coil construction on each driver increases power handling and improves linearity across the full dynamic range.
  • Vertical or Horizontal Mounting: The PWM2 is optimised for both orientations, making it equally effective as a left/right speaker pair flanking a TV or as a horizontal center channel below or above a screen.
  • Bass-Reflex Port Design: Slot-style ports at each cabinet end extend low-frequency output to a 40Hz cutoff, enabling use without a subwoofer in most music and home theatre applications.
  • Wall Mount Bracket Included: A robust wall mounting plate and all required hardware are supplied, simplifying professional and DIY installations.
  • Magnetically Attached Grille: The acoustically transparent cloth grille attaches via hidden magnets for a clean, tool-free fit that preserves the speaker's minimal visual footprint.
  • LCR and Surround Flexibility: The PWM2 is fully rated for left, center, right, and surround channel use, integrating seamlessly with the PSB PWM1 and PWM3 in a full on-wall surround system.
  • Voiced by Paul Barton: Final tuning and voicing was guided by PSB founder Paul Barton, whose acoustic research at Canada's National Research Council has shaped PSB's philosophy of natural, uncoloured sound reproduction for decades.
  • Available in Satin White or Satin Black: Both finishes are applied to MDF cabinetry with color-matched grilles, ensuring the speaker integrates discreetly with any interior design scheme.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the PSB PWM2?

The PSB PWM2 is a 3-way on-wall speaker from PSB Speakers, a Canadian audio brand headquartered in Pickering, Ontario. It uses five drivers, dual 4" carbon fibre woofers, dual 3" chambered carbon fibre midrange drivers, and a 1" ferrofluid-cooled titanium dome tweeter, to deliver a frequency response of 70Hz to 23kHz with 89dB in-room sensitivity. Sized to complement a 70" flatscreen TV at 914mm tall and only 85mm deep, it is suitable for LCR and surround channel use in home theatre and high-fidelity music systems.

How does the PSB PWM2 compare to the Sonos Era 300 or Polk Audio MagniFi Max as an on-wall solution?

The PSB PWM2 is a passive, amplifier-driven 3-way loudspeaker optimised for dedicated on-wall installation in custom AV systems, and it competes in a fundamentally different category from powered soundbars such as the Sonos Era 300 or Polk Audio MagniFi Max. The PWM2 requires a separate AV receiver or amplifier and is sold per unit, giving integrators full control over channel assignment, power matching, and room calibration. Where the Sonos Era 300 prioritises wireless streaming convenience and Dolby Atmos height virtualisation in a single self-contained unit, the PWM2 prioritises acoustic transparency, natural driver dispersion, and tonal accuracy at a level that passive audiophile speakers consistently outperform powered soundbars in critical listening environments.

Can the PSB PWM2 be used without a subwoofer?

Yes, the PSB PWM2 can be used without a subwoofer in most music and home theatre applications. Its bass-reflex port design extends low-frequency output to a 40Hz cutoff, and reviewers at SoundStage Access noted that the PWM2 performed comparably to high-performing bookshelf models in the bass region, suggesting subwoofer pairing is beneficial but not mandatory. For large rooms or film soundtracks with heavy LFE content, adding a subwoofer such as the PSB CustomSound CSIR will extend dynamics and deep bass impact significantly.

What is a chambered midrange driver and why does it matter?

A chambered midrange driver is a midrange unit housed in its own acoustically isolated enclosure within the speaker cabinet, separating it from the air volume shared by the woofers and tweeter. In the PSB PWM2, each of the two 3" midrange drivers occupies its own chamber, preventing low-frequency pressure from the woofers from interfering with the midrange cone's motion. This isolation eliminates a common source of coloration and compression in multi-driver speakers, resulting in cleaner, more accurate reproduction of vocals, guitar, piano, and other instruments that sit in the 300Hz to 3kHz critical listening band.

What amplifier power does the PSB PWM2 need?

The PSB PWM2 presents a nominal 8-ohm load with a minimum of 6 ohms, making it compatible with a wide range of AV receivers and stereo integrated amplifiers. Its 89dB in-room sensitivity means it will reach comfortable listening levels with moderate amplifier power; however, reviewers note that the PWM2 benefits from adequate headroom and rewards higher-quality amplification with improved dynamics and control. Any AV receiver rated for 8-ohm loads with per-channel power of 50 watts or more will drive the PWM2 comfortably in a typical Canadian home listening room.

Can the PSB PWM2 be mounted horizontally as a center channel speaker?

Yes, the PSB PWM2 is specifically engineered to perform in both vertical and horizontal orientations without voicing or dispersion compromise. PSB designed the driver array and crossover to maintain coherent horizontal and vertical dispersion regardless of cabinet orientation, making the PWM2 an ideal center channel speaker when mounted horizontally above or below a large-screen TV. This dual-orientation capability also allows a single PWM2 to serve as a center channel in a system where paired PWM2s are used vertically as left and right speakers, creating a tonally matched and seamlessly integrated front soundstage.

Slow, sorry but good
Format: Kindle
This was a slow moving book. Lots of character pov chapters, lots of superfluous descriptions and endless courtly appearances stalled this book to start. Once you get into the heart of the story, it takes off. Before you know it the book is done. My favorite character is Reyna. She is so strong. She is true to herself. She gets into a lot of trouble with her headstrong ways but it's entertaining. I have high hopes for Lorcan. He is honorable to a fault. Thane had turned out to be better than I thought but i still don't like him. Eislin is useless. Great plot twists at the end. I'm looking forward too book 2.

Very detailed! Beautiful world building! Strong Heroine!
Format: Kindle
Starts off a little slow and confusing with different POV’s, but starts to all come together towards the middle to make an elaborate plot line and makes it all worth it. Beautiful world building and attention to detail as well as great writing. The cliffhanger was gut wrenching! Can’t wait for the next book!

Interesting
Format: Kindle
This was a very captivating book once you got into it thoroughly. But the third person perspective was a bit hard to get used to. But as you got into it and followed the different characters, it was interesting and filled with intrigue, conflict and forbidden love. I can’t wait to read the next one and to complete the series.

OUTSTANDING
Format: Kindle
This was very, very good. The world is vast and characters are complex. There is a good plot with a whole lot going on. This is well written. Good twists and turns and some heart breaking moments. You will love these characters, they have heart and loyalty. I am hoping that there will be several more books. We've yet to see anything from the Sea Court but only a mention of them here and there. The Wood Court was given a quick couple of scenes, and only as far as some warriors, we've yet to enter their court and the Shadow Court, I'm not sure if they will be a force for good or bad, but they definitely will play a much bigger role moving forward. This is primarily the Ice and Air Courts. Told in multiple views, which I loved, it gives you a chance to see things from different eyes. There's alot of political maneuvering and deception. I loved it and will pick up the next book as it becomes available. If you like The Fae and the courts, you should love this. I think the author has mucn in store for us.

Definitely worth the read!
Format: Kindle
After taking a deep breath and taking in that wicked twist of an ending, I have finally composed myself. My first thought when I started this book was that I love Reyna's character. I was intrigued by her connection with her familiar and the Ruin that is plaguing her land. It came as no surprise that she took her sister's place in an attempt to protect her. When they reach the Air Court everything slows down. This is where it was iffy for me. First of all, I like multiple POV's in books however 7 is a bit much. It starts to interrupt the story line. I felt like I was finally making progress connecting with one character, then it was switched to another person. I felt they all had necessary or pertinent information but not necessarily were they all POV worthy. The only other thing that annoyed me was that Reyna constantly was " trapped." She would rush off without thinking, only to need rescuing. She is brilliant in a fight, but she really doesn't think through anything. Lorcan is amazing. I know he might be on the "bad" list, but his background is so interesting. Eislyn(Reyna's sister) is really so sweet, but calculating. I enjoyed her and Thane's dialogue. The author did an amazing job with the imagery in this book. Everything was so detailed it was easy to fall into the scene. I love unexpected twists and while part of the ending I expected, I wasn't expecting how it took place. All in all, I found it very entertaining and I am very invested in continuing this series. Favorite quotes: "The truth may be twisted but never false." "Who was she if she was not the enemy of the Air Court? What was her purpose of she no longer has that?" "In a war-torn land, love was always a lie."
