I believe this piece dates from the late 19th to early 20th century, a period when guilloché enamel reached its height of refinement during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. It certainly has touches of Art Nouveau influence! It was created by first engine-turning the metal surface—typically gold or silver—on a rose or straight-line lathe to carve precise, repeating geometric patterns. Translucent enamel was then carefully applied over the engraved metal in multiple layers and fired in a kiln, allowing the underlying design to shimmer through the glassy surface. The soft pastel tones and delicate floral motifs reflect the era’s fascination with craftsmanship, light, and elegance, while the surrounding engraved gold frame was hand-finished to complement the enamel work. Each piece required extraordinary skill and patience, making antique guilloché enamel jewelry both technically impressive for its tie period and highly collectible today.
I’m delighted to own such a beautiful piece and to be able to use it to design something completely new and wearable for today. I used knotted baby lavender pearls, antique glass crystals, and green Swarovski rondelle crystals. She is called “The Gwyneth Necklace”. She’s 16” long plus the 1.5” pendant. The Gwyneth would probably lay just below the clavicle as a graceful addition to any discerning jewelry lovers collection. She’s the epitome of preserving the
charm of the past in a way that can be admired by many.💜💜
