The Far Edges of the Known World: Life Beyond the Borders of Ancient CivilizationWhen Ovid was exiled from Rome to a border town on the Black Sea, he despaired at his bleak and barbarous new surroundings. Like many Greeks and Romans, Ovid thought the outer reaches of his world was where civilization ceased to exist. When Ovid was exiled from Rome to a border town on the Black Sea, he despaired at his bleak and barbarous new surroundings. Like many Greeks and Romans, Ovid thought the outer reaches of his world was where civilization ceased to exist. Our own fascination with the Greek and Roman world has for centuries followed this perspective, shrouding cultures at the far reaches of their influence in myth. But what was it like to live on the edges of these empires, on the boundaries of the known world?

In The Far Edges of the Known World, ancient historian Owen Rees draws on archaeological excavations to reveal these so-called borders as thriving multicultural spaces. This is where the boundaries of "civilized" and "barbarian" began to dissipate; where traditional rules didn't always apply; where different cultures intermarried; and where nomadic tribes built their own cities. Transporting readers through historical spheres of influence, Rees journeys from the sandy caravan routes of Morocco to the freezing winters of the northern Black Sea, from the Red River valley of Vietnam to the rain-lashed forts south of Hadrian's Wall. Beyond well-remembered figures like Cleopatra and Caesar, Rees introduces us to the everyday people who called the borderlands home. We meet an enterprising sex worker in Egypt's Naucratis, gambling soldiers at Hadrian's Wall in England, a Greco-Buddhist monk hailing from the Ganges, and more. As Rees shows, exchanges of trends, ideas, even religious practices were happening all over the world.

The Far Edges of the Known World offers us a vibrant new lens to see and understand the ancient world.

Helped transfer data from Samsung Galaxy S21 with broken screen.
Color: Black
Helped me transfer data from a Samsung Galaxy S21 with broken screen. Simple put USB C end into phone , grab HDMI cable and plug into hub , then plug HDMI end into a monitor. Then grab a wireless keyboard & mouse and plug dongle into hub. Your phone will output to monitor and you can transfer data via Smart Switch using keyboard & mouse. Will only work if phone is unlocked I found on S21.

Best Charging Block Around!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been using this Anker charging block for a bit now, and its great. First off, it’s just really stylish—it has that clean, premium look that blends right in with your other devices, but you can feel it's packed with some serious, heavy-duty tech. Having three ports on one block changes the game completely. You can plug in multiple items at once without losing speed. When you pair this block with a solid high-speed cord, the charging performance is incredible. Just this morning, I hooked up my phone and my monitoring app showed it was pushing an absolute peak of 4,800 mA straight to the battery. It juices everything up incredibly fast without getting hot. If you want something compact, well-built, and professional that just gets the job done every single time, this is the one to get.

Great product!
Bought this as a gift for a friend, and he loves it! It was a great replacement for what he had before, and was such great value! Built well, performs well, is compact, and is perfect for on-the-go use. Great replacement for carrying around multiple blocks for multiple devices. Might have to get one for myself...

All in one heavy duty charging brick
Love that this charger has a metal housing — it feels heavy-duty and well-built in a way most charging bricks don’t. Charges fast, handles a laptop, a phone, and a tablet at the same time without breaking a sweat, and the foldable prongs make it actually travel-friendly. 65W is the sweet spot for daily life: enough to power a MacBook Air or Pro, plus charge two more devices. Pros: • Solid metal build feels premium • 65W is plenty for laptops, tablets, and phones • Three ports (2 USB-C, 1 USB-A) • Foldable prongs for travel • Compact for the wattage Cons: • Heavier than plastic chargers (the trade-off for the build) • Maxing out all three ports splits the wattage, so not everything fast-charges simultaneously Tips: • Use a high-quality USB-C cable to actually hit fast charging speeds • For laptop charging, plug into the top USB-C port for max output • Great single-charger replacement for travel — covers laptop, phone, and tablet in one brick
