Wrack (GB) x Marguerite (USA), by Celt (USA)

Family 4-n

Almost forgotten now because of his younger half-brother, Gallant Fox, Petee-Wrack was the horse that began Marguerite's reputation as an important broodmare. While he never became a champion, he won important races at 3, 4 and 5. Unfortunately, he was an indifferent sire.

As an individual

A tough, sound bay horse, Petee-Wrack was game and determined in a drive. He handled off going well.

As a stallion

According to Jockey Club records, Petee-Wrack sired 93 winners (49.2%) and 7 stakes winners (3.7%) from 189 named foals. He gained some note as a sire of jumpers, getting two winners of the Maryland Hunt Cup and an American Grand National winner.

Notable progeny

Brother Jones (USA), Columbiana (USA), Peterski (USA), Pine Pep (USA).

Connections

Petee-Wrack was bred by Belair Stud (William Woodward, Sr.). He was owned by John R. Macomber, who purchased the colt from the 1926 Saratoga yearling sale.

Pedigree notes

Petee-Wrack is inbred 5x5 to 1873 Derby Stakes winner Doncaster and Rouge Rose through the full sister and brother Rose of Lancaster and Bend Or (assuming that Bend Or was produced from Rouge Rose as officially shown in the General Stud Book; see The Mystery of Bend Or.) He is a half-brother to 1930 American Horse of the Year Gallant Fox, English champion 2-year-old male Foxbrough and the good stakes winner Fighting Fox, all by Sir Gallahad III. He is also a half brother to multiple stakes producers Maraschino, Marigal and Marguery, likewise sired by Sir Gallahad III. Petee-Wrack's dam Marguerite is a half-sister to the good stakes winner Cloudland (by Wrack) and is out of Fairy Ray (by Radium), a half-sister to three English stakes winners.

Fun facts
Petee-Wrack was the namesake for an allowance purse at the now-defunct Rockingham Park.

Picky dog approved!
Color: S6-muti-color, Color: S6-muti-color
I have wasted so much money on dog balls that they won't even pick up! They finally were obsessed with the Kong rubber green/blue or red/blue ones, but they're $3+. each, and they break from the dogs squishing it. I honestly had zero expectations on these, and they BOTH picked them up on the first throw! That's huge!! Seem to work fine in the ChuckIt. As for the squeaker, at first I was like "Oh nooooo." when they both loudly started! Much to my (and my neighbors') happiness, the squeakers stopped working after a couple minutes. 🤣

Durable
Color: S6-muti-color
The balls are great for chewers. The squeaky didn’t last long but they are perfect for the ball launcher.

The squeeker isn't durable, but the balls themselves are.
Color: S6-muti-color, Color: S6-muti-color
I have two 70+lb, ball obsessed dogs (a field bred Golden Retriever, and an Old Time Scotch Collie), and these balls are living up to the abuse they're receiving. In the fall we always lose a ball or two in the yard due to getting lost in leaves or longer grass, so I always try and buy a multi pack at the start of the season, so went with these this year. I'm glad I did. Great price for a 6 pack, they fit the medium Chuck-It launcher (a little loosely, but they throw just fine), have great bounce, they FLOAT (which means I didn't lose any at the beach), and they're super durable to the dreaded "mouth squish." The squeaker dies pretty quick, like, within a day, but it isn't the kind that can fall out or choke your dog, so no worries there. The boys are happy, I'm happy, my wallet is happy - I've already ordered another pack.
