Installation Guide

Always consult your service manual before beginning work. The general process is as follows:

  1. Disconnect Power: Disconnect the negative battery cable and ensure the outboard is in the neutral position.
  2. Remove Lower Unit: Unbolt and carefully lower the gear case (lower unit) from the outboard's driveshaft housing. Be prepared for it to be heavy.
  3. Access Pump Housing: Locate the water pump assembly on top of the gear case. Remove the bolts securing the water pump housing cover.
  4. Remove Old Impeller: Lift off the housing. You may need to gently pry it. Note the orientation of any seals. Slide the old impeller off the drive shaft and remove the small, rectangular drive key from the shaft.
  5. Clean and Inspect: Thoroughly clean the inside of the housing and the base plate. Inspect the housing, cover, and plate for scoring, warping, or corrosion. Replace them if significant wear is found.
  6. Install New Impeller: Insert the new drive key into the slot on the drive shaft. Slide the new impeller onto the shaft, turning the shaft clockwise to gently bend the blades into position inside the housing.
  7. Reassemble: Install the new gasket. Reinstall the pump housing cover and tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque in a crisscross pattern.
  8. Reinstall Lower Unit: Carefully guide the lower unit back into place, ensuring the drive shaft, shift shaft, and water tube align correctly. Secure it with the mounting bolts.
  9. Test Operation: Reconnect the battery. Start the engine in a test tank or in the water and confirm a strong, steady stream of water is exiting the tell-tale port.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Q: How do I confirm this impeller kit fits my engine?
A: First, check the "Compatible Engine Models" table to see if your motor's horsepower and year range are listed. This kit fits specific Johnson/Evinrude 25-50 HP 2-stroke outboards (1989–1998). For best results, cross-reference your existing part number with those in our list, such as 432941, 766433, or 777825. You can use the Johnson/Evinrude serial number guide linked above to find your model details.

Q: What are the signs of a failing water pump impeller?
A: The most common sign is a weak or no water stream from the engine's "tell-tale" outlet. Other indicators include the engine overheating alarm sounding, steam from the exhaust, or the engine going into a power-reduction mode. A failed impeller can quickly lead to severe engine damage.

Q: How often should I replace my impeller?
A: As a critical part of preventative maintenance, it is recommended to replace the impeller every 1-2 years or after 100-200 hours of use, whichever comes first. The rubber can degrade and become brittle over time, even with low hours.

Q: Is this a complete water pump rebuild kit?
A: No, this is an impeller service kit that includes the core components: the impeller, drive key, and gasket. It does not include the full housing, wear plate, or all O-rings that might be part of a complete rebuild kit. Please verify the package contents against your needs.

Q: OEM vs. Aftermarket?
A: This listing is an aftermarket replacement part (not an OEM component). We build to OEM specifications using comparable-grade materials. Production is done in an ISO9002-certified facility, and each batch is inspected for consistent performance.

Q: How fast do you ship and how much does it cost?
A: We offer fast global shipping—typically 5–15 days worldwide—and standard shipping is free. Expedited options are available at checkout depending on your location.

Q: What is your warranty and return policy?
A: This product includes a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects under normal use. If something goes wrong, contact our support team with your order details. Returns are accepted within our standard return window (unused & in original condition); please see our policy page or reach out for instructions.

My new favorite shirts!
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: Grey, Size: Large
These are my new favorite shirts! I just ordered a 3rd. i wish there were more colors. Yes, the cotton is heavy-weight and I like that. They are just a bit warmer than regular dress shirts. The fit is excellent. I'm 5'9", 200lbs and L fits perfectly. Enough room without being blousy. The sleeves are long enough (finally!). (Most other 16.5/32-33 shirts always have sleeves that are too short). The fit/finish and detail is surprisingly good. They don't really shrink after washing and come out very soft. Not wrinkle-free, but that's ok since it means that the 100% cotton hasn't been dosed with chemicals. I expect they will wear very well over time.

Quality shirt. Not too blousy.
I'm 5'11" and hover around 175-180 lbs. so I'm a pretty average guy. I've been thin my whole life but now I'm in my 40's so if I don't watch it, my stomach will get bigger. I bought this shirt in slim-fit first. It was perfect but since these shirts are 100% cotton, I was concerned that after a couple washings, it would be too small (especially in the stomach area). I returned the slim-fit and bought this regular-fit (medium). For this review, I thought it would be helpful to compare the Amazon Essentials shirt to The Gap's regular oxford shirt. I've always liked the fit of Gap oxford shirts. Upon inspection, the weight and feel of the Amazon oxford cloth is exactly the same at the Gap's. I laid one of my old Gap shirts on top of this Amazon Essentials oxford. You can see from the pictures that the torso cut is exactly the same (about 21 inches pit-to-pit seam). I like that. I'm not a fat guy and I don't want a blousy shirt. This is neither too blousy nor too slim. Just right. The sleeves are perhaps 1/2 inch longer than the Gap shirt. Perhaps one negative is the tail. The Amazon Essentials tail is 1.5-2" longer than the Gap shirt. This makes the Amazon Essentials shirt a touch long for wearing untucked in my opinion. However, if you do tuck, a longer shirt stays tucked-in. So it depends how you want to wear it. I have a lady who does alterations. She'll charge $10 to shorten the tail if I wanted that. If I do have the Amazon shirt altered, it would still be a bargain. These are good quality shirts with a nice cut to them. I won't hesitate to buy them again. Highly recommended.

Decent quality. Sizing is normal but a bit generous in the midsection
Fit Type: Regular Fit, Color: White, Size: Large
I was impressed. Shirt is of fairly decent quality- thick cotton. My husband is normally a large. Given the sizing chart we almost ordered a medium, but it was good we bought a large. The sleeves are perfect but afraid it may shrink in the dryer. I think the reason people say loose fit is because it is boxy (square). Fine under a suit and we needed it urgently.
