Die Menschen auf diesen Fotos, die vor der Küste der Fidschi-Inseln aufgenommen wurden, stehen stellvertretend für die Vielen, die davon bedroht sind, ihr Zuhause, ihr Land und ihre Lebensgrundlage zu verlieren, wenn das Wasser steigt.Die Bilder – alle tauchend mit der Kamera unter Wasser aufgenommen – sind von eindringlicher Schönheit. Doch über die unmittelbare visuelle Wirkung hinaus, gehen Brandts Aufnahmen tiefer: Wie sind wir an diesen Punkt gekommen? Was bringt die Zukunft für die Menschen der Pazifikinseln und anderer Küstenregionen unserer Erde? Können wir den Schaden mindern oder gar abwenden? Brandts empathische und zugleich kraftvolle Porträts verleihen dem oft abstrakten Konzept des Klimawandels Greifbarkeit und erinnern daran, dass hinter jeder Statistik über den steigenden Meeresspiegel eine menschliche Geschichte steht.
NICK BRANDT (*1964, London) studierte Malerei und Film an der St. Martin's School of Art in London. Im Jahr 1992 zog er nach Kalifornien, wo er auch heute noch lebt. Seit 2001 dokumentiert er die zerstörerischen Auswirkungen, die der Mensch auf die Natur und damit auch auf sich selbst hat. Das erste Kapitel von The Day May Break wurde 2020 in Simbabwe und Kenia aufgenommen. Kapitel zwei entstand 2022 in Bolivien. Mit dem dritten Kapitel führt Brandt Farbe in die Serie ein und verstärkt damit die allumfassende Kraft des Wassers.

Meaningful curriculum that I highly recommend.

Heard about this book from a friend who is a teacher. Her entire school is using this curriculum and seeing great results. I bought a copy and the poster set to try for myself. Students loved it! We had amazing discussions and my students' kindness level increased by 100 percent. I appreciate that there is a curriculum for public schools that takes the students to a deeper level of understanding about themselves and others. More of my colleagues are interested in this material and I think we will be doing a book study soon. Hoping it will be adopted by our curriculum department for the entire district.
Pros: Easy to use,, researched based (not fluffy), poster set to support, nice work pages for students to use during the lesson, age appropriate, meaningful connections made between myself, students and between the students and their families. Well received by community.
Cons: Lessons were slightly longer than 35 minutes but I added my own activities for additional interest. Not a good curriculum for educators who only want to focus on academics.

Some of the scripting is rather good, especially for safe touch

I was rather excited about this book initially. The work pages are done well for their appropriate age levels and I felt the lessons were okay. Some of the scripting is rather good, especially for safe touch. However, it is mostly seat work. I was looking for something that would work with all learning styles better and include a few interacting activities, maybe even a game. I have quite a few kinesthetic learners so I have had to come up with my own activities to go along with it.

Successful!

I taught these lessons to my students at the end of the school year which can be a hectic time. I could tell the students really understood the love languages and were applying them at school and at home. I look forward to using it to start off the new school year.
