I have read books about the Camp Fire as well as books about other fires. I have also seen the documentary about the Camp Fire. This book does a really good job of capturing the experience of fleeing a wildfire without being unnecessarily gruesome or morbid. The back has a timeline and facts about the fire as well as suggestions for coping if you’re in the same predicament. I think many kids will enjoy the sense of adventure and fast pace of the book. For a small book this packs a powerful punch. Fourteen year old Troy is left in charge of his younger sister while his parents are away for twenty-four hours. He takes his promise to his parents to protect his sister even when she becomes annoying. This is fast paced, on the seat of your chair action from the very beginning. For those who are fans of the “I Survived “ series by Lauren Tarshis, I guarantee that you will enjoy this series. I highly recommend this to all adventure readers.

Paradise is where my parents retired and are buried. The house they lived in burned down in the fire after 34 years of wonderful memories with my husband and our 3 children. We are just so grateful that my parents died before the fire, my dad being the last in 2016 at over 100 years old.
