Die Fischdeckel dienen als Schutz- und Rückzugsmöglichkeit für Welse & Panzerwelse sowie Jungfische. 
 Der durchgehend offene Unterschlupf ist ca. 10 cm lang und ca. 9 cm breit. Die Höhe beträgt ca. 2-2,5cm.
Die enorme Stabilität ermöglicht den sicheren Einsatz als Unterschlupf für Jungfische im Einhängekasten.


Die Höhlen sind auch ideal für Bepflanzungen von Moos.
 Da die Oberfläche recht porös ist, wächst das Moos sehr schnell und leicht an.
